Can too much muscle tone cause problems? I have a 22 month old bitch who is well and truly muscled but I'm a bit worried that she is becoming to muscley (wrong spelling I'm sure). Is there anything I can do, I have cut down on her exercise, but she can jump 6 foot in the air from a standing position!!

I have seen working GSP's with muscle tone that Arnold Schwarzenegger would have been proud of. I must say that I like a well muscled dog but this was to the extreme and ugly. The dogs do not appear to suffer any long term problems that I am aware of. I think that it is more likely that the extra muscling would hide other problems such as HD. I also have a dog who can leap 5' horizontally. I would tend to be more concerned about the impact on his bone structure than the muscles. :-)

Thats what I was thinking Leigh, if it's a GSD, GSP, BC or if it comes to it a Elkhound, have to get that in, then no probs. if it's a Chihuahua or Gt Dane I'd be a bit worried. JH

You really made me laugh Jackie .... can you imagine a Chihuahua leaping 6' in the air from a standing start? Maybe with the help of a size 9 :D *JOKE* !! I think we are talking about a SWD tho'

She's a Spanish Water Dog, well done Leigh. By the way, I have a pomeranian that can do about 4 feet, although she's about a 6lber so she's big for a pom. I do have her 2 daughters and they are only small and they look as though they are going to follow in her pawsteps.
