Topic Dog Boards / General / Very sad :(

I'm cross posting this from another board. I'm gutted :(

********************************************

We recently lost a fight to save a Great Dane puppy from being destroyed just because he was 'getting a bit stroppy'.

He lost his battle last week - his owners had him destroyed when there was a foster home ready and waiting to give him the help he needed...

This poem is for Chester...

"Now I lay me down to rest
I pray my soul can stand this test
Of watching puppies lose their homes
Through owners’ gripes and cries and moans

I long for strength of spirit when
I pray they'll find a home again
Where they will know a loving heart
I can't do much, but it's a start........

And spare me from the owners pleas
About the baby's allergies
Or how the place is ‘just a state’
Or spitefulness 'tween cat and mate

Please keep me sane while dealing with
The woman who bought as a gift
A wriggling tiny ball of fluff
That now is playing ‘way too rough’

Remind me I should bite my lip
When confronted with, "he grew too quick"
"I didn't know he'd get so large"
"He seems to think that he's in charge"

Protect my heart when I hear them say
"I think we'll breed our dog one day"
Sometimes I think it'll break in two
Each day brings trials harsh and new

And if I die before I wake
I pray a hopeless soul you'll take
My tears are gone, my faith is bare
Please hear my rescue prayer."

G'night Chester - sleep well and be as stroppy as you like while you wait at the Bridge for me and others who will understand & love you for what you are - a puppy.

chloe,
im so so sad:( :( :( i cant belive that people do these things,my 2 deerhounds were almost pts as my sister in law didnt want them no more because she "couldnt stand the size they had grown and they were costing her so much money to feed" mine are mother and son ,yes you guessed it she bred them and was appalled that she only had "1 puppy" which really discusted me and my husband.
so we took on Barry and Flojoe,Flojoe gets a little grumpy at times because shes getting on a bit for a "larger breed" but shes far from being a dangerous dog.
it really saddens me that people do these things without a thought for whats best for the dog,and it makes me sooo angry:mad:.
i wish at times some people would do more than their best if they can no longer keep their dogs it would save a lot of unforunate dogs being pts.but some people cant see past their b****y noses.
honestly,it makes me really mad

Some people are just downright stupid and unkind.

It makes me livid. The world would be a better place without them, not the dogs.

Hi Chloe,
That is so sad, as the others have said ... Why do some people even bother getting a dog? :(
Imagine having a puppy put to sleep, even when a home was waiting on it... it's incredible!!
Some people....
It's unbelievable what goes on, you only have to read Jane's postings on poor old Cass, to know there are some vile people out there.
Give Willis a hug for me.

I have to ask myself why Vets put down a healthy puppy why cant they ring the rescues Im often rung by Vets to help Labs which are being taken to be PTS one was a four year old lab whose owner was going abroad :(
I have to confess that we will not take aggressive dogs that is aggressive to humans

I guess it depends what the owners tell the vet :(

I suppose you could say at least the owners put him to sleep rather than turf him out onto the street and left to fend for himself. BUT THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE ! I know it's way to late now but did the owners not get in touch with the breeder of the puppy and ask if they would take him back. A responsible breeder would. Being a dane owner myself I am totally p....d off about this, he was only a puppy. I just pray that those owners don't go and get another dog. They don't deserve one.
