Just wondering on your opinion!!

I have 2 dogs and they are family pets but i do show them.
I have a lovely boy who is i have been asked to use for stud by a friend but the breeder of this boy doesn't want this person to use him. I have no endoresment on this boy but just the word that if someone wanted to use him to let them know.

I don't want to upset anyone but he is my dog!
I have thought long and hard about this , i have got to have the healthvchecks done before i actually decide anything. But my question is i'm new to this, i know there are niceee dogs that they could use. This boy is doing well in the ring, but i'm grateful that his breeder let me have a dog in the first place, i do not want to upset anyone.
Has anyone else been in this position

hi,
i dont breed and i have only been to shows (although i have never shown any of my own dogs)but if your boy is doing well in the ring, you are going to be approached by some people in regards to using your dog as a stud.
has the breeder of your dog said why they dont want him to be used at stud to your friends dog???
they could have a number of reasons for advising you not too....have you asked?
anyway good luck with your boy in the ring at future shows.:)
regards jane.

You need to find out the reason for the breeders decision. It may be trivial and simply a personality clash between the owners, however it might be something quite serious like an undisclosed hereditary defect you dont know about, or a dislike of the way they sell pups to the wrong people, or breed too many litters etc. etc. Take the time to find out, as your breeder may well have the interests of the breed at heart & you would do well to listen to them.

maybe your breeder has bred from this particular dogs lines before and the two lines arent compatible ?
I know in particular with Staffys you have to watch which lines you breed with as there are the more athletic looking dogs and there are the more bullish looking . Some just arent compatible.
Maybe your breeder knows of health problems from this particular dog . I really think you need an explanation from your own breeder as to her reservations
