We have just had a littter of 3 beautiful puppies 1 male and 2 female. We own both the father and mother as family pets.

I can't register the puppies as when we bought both the mother and father, although they have long chmpionship pedigrees and were both kennel club registered we didn't transfer ownership - never imagining that we would breed them. (The male thought he would have some fun after hearing us book his castration!!)

We are after some advice as to price we can ask for two of the puppies, we are keeping one and now having them neutered.

Any advice would be great
Thanks
Mrs Edmunds

Hi,
Can't you transfer the ownership now? Then you should be able to register the pups (if the parents' registrations aren't endorsed).

What breed are they by the way?

There is no time limit on transfering the papers into your name. I would attach a note explaining the situation, and enclose the form for registering the pups with the transfer socuments in with the letter. As already said you will be able to register the litter as long as the parents papers are not endorsed 'progeny not eligible for registration'.

YTou can download the form for registering the litter from the KC site http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk Clik in the side panel on KC Forms

You can do a transfere of ownership at the same time as registering the pups - well at least with the bitch. A friend of mine had one of her bitches back who was in whelp to one of her stud dogs (the owner had a heart attack so had to give up the dogs) and the KC said there was no problem with her sending both forms together.

I have no idea what breed your dogs are, but most breeds have some health problems that need to be tested for to minimise the chances of these being passed on and affecting the pups.

Certainly most breeds should be Hip Scored, and many eye tested. Some also should be elbow tested, heart tested etc.

If you haven't had these tests done, then I would suggest you get Dad done before the pups are due to go, and also get Mum done once pups are weaned and write this into your puppy agreement. It won't prevent action being taken against you if the pups do develop a hereditary problem, but will at least show that you tested, and hopefully that the parents were clear.

If it turns out that one or other of the parents are not clear, then at least this will be known, and the prospective buyers will need to be informed of the extra risks involved in purchasing a pup.

Good luck.
