I am on a waiting list to take in a rescue dog,but since i live outwith there home check area i was asked to send a vet reference.
I was happy to do so until i spoke to my vet practice, i was told it started from £50 just for the call out then upwards for administrative work.
I don't know how you feel about this cost but feel i would rather send the rescue the £50 plus...and hope someone neerer can welcome a new addition.....?????

Do you own any other dogs ? If not how can a vet decided if you are the right owner or not. Surely someone from the rescue could arrange to visit you or they know of someone nearer you than them that could visit and yes I do agree that £50 is rather expensive and the rescue could make better use of the money. Have you explained this to them ? Good luck with what ever you do.

When i had my vet check for a rescue dog because i lived out of the area they could not visit. But the vet letter didn't cost a penny, but maybe that was due to me already having a dog.
If you do not own a dog i would suggest that you ring around a few vets.

:(Hi Margaret,
Ihad two dogs when i registered to rescue....but after the talk with the vet practice i gave up on helping my rescue club,,,,now a year later i have got another dog and the rescue were checking if i wanted again to be placed on there list for a possible adoptee but i told them that i gave in as was dissapointed at the quote given to me for a refference..
I had wondered if i could have got another breed home-checker to come originally but was unsure...
I really wanted to find an answer incase anyone else came across the same problem....
Thank you
Pam
(dont think hubby would let me take in any more just now):(

Who was it on here that was setting up a database of home checkers where some Champdog peeps put forward their names as volunteers ?? Perhaps there maybe somebody on there that is near to where Pammie lives that the rescue would be OK to use to do the home check ??
Can anybody remember or did I dream this one ??!!
Lucy
Sometimes home checkers from another breed or society will do the check - could your rescue contact one of those. I would also check on the other fee's that particular vet charges if you are not already registered with them :)

Its a good idea to ask the rescue if they could contact another rescue in your area. They might be able to do this but I think that there is another site on the internet called K999 sorry I don't know the exact address who might be able to help.
