After eating, my puppy Cam makes a funny little noise, which goes on for a while. It's definitely not a retch - more of a hiccup. Can puppies get hiccups? If so, is there anything I should do or not do to prevent it?
Thanks
Jo
Hi Jo
When libby was a pup she regularly got hiccups; I don't know of anyting to prevent them, but she grew out of them :)
Hope that helps a bit?

Pups seem to hiccup all the time, don't worry.
They look so sweet, sitting there with hiccups.....don't you think :D

Both my 2 had hiccups and I know a lot of people have asked this same question. I was told that when a puppy has hiccups it means they are growing. I don't know why you would put the two together but as it came from a very reliable and knowledgeable source I am inclined to believe it. Would also make sense that they seem to grow out of hiccuping.

Hi Jo,
Having fun? Taz got hiccups all the time when she was tiny, she doesn't do it any more though, and she eats just as fast, she must have grown out of it:D Is he absolutely gorgeous? I didn't get the pictures you sent, don't know if it was me or not, can you send them again please?

Hi Jo
gosh I'd forgotten all about that :) . I remember Gus used to get them all the time - especially after eating or even when he was excited . Great big hiccups from this little puppy :)
How is Cam settling in ? Enjoy it all with him as they grow so quickly and take lots and lots of photos .
Even though Gus is only 7 months now its amazing when you look back to he photos of when he first arrived at the difference in him. Even the boys say " I cant imagine him having been that tiny " .
When you get your photos can you mail me one ? I just love puppies . :D

Thanks for advice everyone. It's a relief to know that pups do get hiccups. I'd sort of convinced myself that he had a rare respiratory disorder. Being a "new mum" is such a worry!
Jo
PS Will send photos right now!

Our cat gets hiccups occasionally too ........... you know the theory that a shock stops hiccups, so people always shout 'BOO!' at you very loudly? Well, doesn't really work with people, as they expect it. Works with animals, though .........
Oooh, I'm a BAD mother ;)

MB my 7 month old Lab used to get them quite a lot and she would come and sit next to me witha worried look on her face. I would sit there and mimic hiccups with her for a few goes. I would them let out a big BOO and she would lift off the floor in fright! It stopped the hiccups and she still came back when it happened again! ! :D
Another bad mummy ! :D
