just got new girl shes got black markings on her tonogue anybody know what they might be ive looked in the books ive got but carnt find anything

As far as I know all Newfies have black marks on their tongues. Well lets say I have never seen one without. It is just the way they are. Have heard it said that it is because they are related to bears, believe it if you will.

My two haven't got any black markings on there's , but there is nothing wrong with it at all.
Most Newfs do have it and i think that it looks quite good.

Hi Woofary,

Curly coated retrievers commonly have black spots on their tongues and I have had a lab with this as well. Yes, it's nice, a real distinguishing feature. :)

When I first saw the black marks on my first curly's tongue I thought she had got hold of a black pen and chewed it! :)

Never really thought about this, have just checked mine the Lanseer has got black on his.the black bitch has not her's is all pink.

I was told it means they have landseer in their genes. Dont know if its true or not though!
