I dont show my labrador bitch or dog but they meet the breed standard and are healthy and have great temperments which is why i want to breed them. if breed them, how will i know which pups to sell as show prospect and which to sell as pet quality?

Also, If i sell a pup as show/breeding prospect but it later turns out to be the incorrect height or whatever, do i have to give some sort of refund even though i didnt know what it would turn out like? any advice would be a real help. :)

Hi Guest, the purpose of showing a dog is to obtain the considered opinion of experienced people (judges). If a dog wins consistently under many different judges, then it may be considered to 'meet the breed standard'. However every dog has faults, the perfect specimen has never been born. So by this token your dogs may or may not be considered to 'meet the breed standard'. By spending time, and I mean years, going to dog shows, you will pick up knowledge and gain experience along the way. You will meet and mix with like minded people some with much knowledge, and some with very little. Questions will be answered along the way, this board is a great starting point. You will find out about what makes a great dog and which ones should not be bred from for whatever reason. Each breed has it's particular health problems, and reponsible breeders always have their breeding stock health tested, and that doesn't mean a quick once over from a vet.
If your dogs are Kennel Club registered, you could give showing a try, You would then know whether or not they were suitable to breed from, and you would learn which health tests were neccessary. Try asking the breeders of your dogs to help get you started, and come back to the board again to ask lots and lots of questions. Do all this before you think of breeding, theres alot to learn, and you would want to make the best job of it that you could wouldn't you. Good Luck for the future.
