hi everyone,
just found this site and it looks really good
i have just entered the doggy world by getting my 1st bullmastiff puppy.
she is 12 weeks and ive had her from 7 weeks,she is absolutely lovely!!!!!!!
just wondering if there are any more bullmastiff owners out there??
would love to hear from you all

she is a red bitch,lovely temperament,only problem im having at the moment is her eating!!!
shes very picky.she is gaining ample weight but according to the food labels she is eating about 1/4 of what she is meant to be eating per day originally i put her on pedigree dry food which because she is a large breed she was meant to be eating a huge!! amount of food(the bowl was full to the top all that wouldnt fit in her stomach!!) i also tried adding tuna and meat to the food to make it more tasty but she just licks up the tuna and leaves the biscuit(crafty bugger!)
i have in the past 3 days changed her food to eukanuba (large breed puppy)which she enjoyed for 1/2 a day but now she is refusing to eat that to unless she has it scattered over the floor(she wont eat from a bowl she will only pick)any ideas this dog is running rings round us where mealtime is concerned!.she does like her goats milk and weetibix though she will eat that in 2 mins

Your best guide is the pups condition. she should be covered, but her ribs should be esy to feel, but not see. The amount on the packets is just a guide. If she is gaining weight steadily and is bright and happy then do not molly coddle her. give her four meals a day, and if she doesn't eat it in 15 minutes pick it up until next time.

She may be better feeding from a flat dish rather than a deep one.

in a reply to brainless i thought large dog breeds should eat from a raised bowl, zena(my bullmastiff)has her meals out of a stainless steel bowl set where the height can be adjusted accordingly shall i try feeding her from a flat bowl on the floor then?

This is a beleif that in recent researh has in fact been discredited. the study on bloat concluded that raised bowls could actually make things marginally worse. I haven't saved the article unfortunately.

it is important that the dog does not have excersise for an hour before or after a meal.

All my lazy lot lie down to eat! :D

if she doesnt really like the dry mix add a bit of gravy just to moisten it,they have to eat the food to get the gravy taste.it seems to work for me,but i sometimes put water instead just for a change

Welcome to the board. Bull mastiffs are great dogs. Quite a few owners on here with them. Marie is very knowledgeable on them, and very helpful, but she is in Sweden at the moment. Im sure if you need any info or advice you will get on here.
