Eeek
I have just spotted a bald spot on Gus's tail . It is about the size of a little fingernail and is about half way down his tail .
Anyone have any ideas ? :(
Lel
This seems to happen in whippets a lot. Don't know what breed Gus is:) In the US they call it Stud tail - has nothing to do with male or female, but is related to a hormone glad that secretes something in that area.
There have been a few suggestions about what to do to help it. What worked for us was using Oxy10 every night for a few weeks.
Some dogs grow the hair back, some don't.

Thanks Gwen
Will definately try that out . Glad to hear you have had it too ( well not you , the dogs - oh you know what i mean ! :D )
Wendy - Took him to the vets before who says it is very common ( I have never known it before) and as you said Wendy , he says it is a gland that over secretes oil . He gave him an injection and says to wipe the spot with diluted fairy liquid each day . Thanks for your help :)
The only bit worrying me is that the vet says some dogs never recover the hair here . Have you known this Gwen ?
He has a show next Saturday -will I still be able to enter him or is it too much of a fault ? You only notice it from certain angles .

And how often ,as there are no instructions on the tub ?
Thanks

Hi Lel
As Gwen has said it's common if Staffs, Sal hasn't managed to get one yet but I'm sure she will.
Sam my Stafford dog had a bald spot on his tail when he was about Gus's age (can't remember when it sleared up but it did) But got one on the to[ of his head which he had for the next 16 years!! No probs with showing though as has been said; That's Staffords.
I'm at the Potteries too!!!!!

Ive not entered potteries yet cant even remember when entries close blackpool is on june the 20th so youve missed that one. we will meet up somwhere along the line
As it is a common thing it shouldn't affect your showing:) There are a LOT of whippets out there showing who have this - it's just one of those things. Best of luck.

Now maybe this explains why Taz (labrador) has a bald spot half way down his tail.
It doesn't seem to bother him, and its been there for quite a while.
