Hi, I got a new puppy, she was 6 weeks when I got her, now is 7 months. When I got her I took her to the vet for her check up and he said she was too skinny. She also had a skin infection. Well, she is all better now and growing. However, she still acts like she is starving, she goes crazy for food, she will not listen around food and is obsessed with it. Will she always be like this?? Does she think she is starving? My vet says she is normal now for her size and I can reduce her food to twice a day.
Thank you.
have you wormed your dog? what breed is she as some are fanatics about food, what type of food are you feeding her?
I would continue to feed her 3 times a day, the amount of food that you are giving for each feed to remain the same, over a period of time cut the size of her lunchtime feed down but putting what you have taken out of her lunchtime feed into her two other feeds, until eventually the lunch time feed is taken out altogether, when she is about 12-18 mths do the same with her other 2 feeds to get her on to one feed either morning or evening whichever you prefer her to have,(mine eat in the evening 2 reasons one they come to work with me, two its cooler in the evening in the summer, more chance of the dogs eating the food to save begging later) once she is on one feed start to cut the amount down that you are feeding her. With each of mine i have let them tell me that they could no longer eat breakfast and lunch. hope this helps

have you tried teacing your dog the wait command? it's really easy....my 2 1/2 month old pup has it down. Put her food down but hold her back from it. And say wait. Keep holding her for a few seconds then said good girl and release her to her dish....then gradually increase the time. She'sll struggle lots but dont give in. Eventually she will do it automatilcally...and it's great for not going through doors or jumping out of a car to soon.
