I feed all my dogs on Eukanuba but although I am happy with the results in the sense the dogs look great, they are constantly hungry. They are all having the correct weight for age and weight ratio and are weighed weekly to keep tabs on it, but act as though they haven't been fed when it's food time.
I have tried splitting their meals into two breakfast and dinner, the Newfs are constantly on two meals, and they all have 'in-between' snacks and treats.
They are wormed regularly with Panacur 10% and treated with Stronghold so it can't be a parasitic problem.
I am considering seriously putting them on a different diet that is more satisfying to them and cheaper for me as Eukanuba is expensive which is ok if you are 100% happy with it.
Has anyone tried the vitalin bitch diet, I have received some info on it but would like to hear some opinions about it.
Can anyone recommend a good food thatwill satisfy the dogs. We used to feed a complete made for Countrywide stores at £10 per bag very cheap dogs loved it but I felt it wasn't 'good enough' for them if they were shown or breeding.

i personally would never feed my dogs vitalin, to me it is rabbit food that you mix with water, there is also more mess to clean up. Hills is a good food if you were going to try that, although mine costs £41 a sack. The other thing to consider is going to a god pet store and asking for advice.
Do you mix meat in with there feeds, mine has tuna as she is on a high protein diet, for a food allergy.

Thanks I was interested mainly in the bitch diet as most of my dogs are bitches and had some info on the other vitalin food, Iwould never used the cereal based one couldn't stand the wind after.LOL :D
I'm not bothered about the price too much (don't tell hubby I said that though, he thinks the dogs eat better thanwe do- and why not?) but I feel that they are constantly hungry and would like some advise on something to satisfy them.
Incidently we used to feed Hills but they were eating each others poo as it was coming out. Nothing like a hot meal on a acold day eh? ;D So changed to Eukanuba.Buying from the breeders club is definately more economical but why are they so hungry??
They all have table scraps and toast in the mornings so don't go without at all.

Hi,
I would definately NOT recomend changing to Vitalin!! It's full of cereal and rubbish that isn't very digestable. Often dogs fed on vitalin will eat their own poo because most of it comes out undigested and is therefore very tasty...nice eh!! :D
If you want something cheaper, there isn't really anything that is good quality, there is no point in dropping the quality of the food, because your dogs health could suffer.
have you tried James Wellbeloved, Burns, Supa-dog or even Naturediet (wet food).

I would not recomend James Wellbeloved we tried this on our dog and she lost 3kg in one month put her back onto Eukaneba and she stopped losing weight and started gaining back what she had lost.

erm, Dr John is only £5.99 a sack and my lot do very well on that. Dr John Gold is £6.99 and my lot can cope with working 6 hour days on that. Just because it's cheap, doesn't mean it's bad quality.

That's strange cos the price is on the bag. Someone once told me that they couldn't charge any more than the price that was on the bag, so they didn't stock it. They told me that's probably why a lot of other places don't as they don't make much money on it.
I get mine from a local horse feed store and I used to get it from an agricultural merchants.

edited to say where I get it from as I forgot to answer that bit.

If you are interested in contacting the manufacturer they will be able to let you know how to get hold of it.

What breed and ages are your dogs Helen? I have Newfies age 8 and 7 months, GSD 7 years and cockers between 3 months and 2 years and 2 young and one old maltese, do you think Dr Johns would suit? I did have a dog once that was fed on it when we had her and she DID look well.

I have:
Springer - 8 years
GWP - 2 and a half
Pointers - 5, 10 and 13 weeks. (I feed Milly JWB at the moment)
Difficult to say whether Dr John would suit. I tried a few different foods until I found Dr John. Might be worth trying if you are interested in it. Just sometimes difficult to get hold of.
