Topic Dog Boards / General / Room deodorizer?
- By Malachite [us] Date 02.06.03 18:32 UTC
We just got a pup and now we have dog smell in the house, what can I use to deodorizer and get rid of that smell. Just because we have a pup, doesn't mean the house needs to stink.

Thanks!

We find that regularly washing the dog beds and bedding help; it gets very smelly :( :(
We also use those plug in air-fresheners and they seem to make a difference :)

Hope it helps :)

Hi
I have used for the first time today! Neutradol carpet deodoriser and it's worked a treat:)

Please do not take this in the wrong vein.

But first you say the pups breath smells, now you say the house smells after such a short time, do you think you are prepared to have a dog in the house, they do smell, they do make little puddles, they also have wind at the most inopportune moments, but they are dogs!!!

I found the Ambi Pur Pet Plug in air freshener very effective; also regularly opening all the windows!

A relative lack of doggy smells is also one advantage of a complete diet - but this is not worth the disadvantages, IMHO.

me too, my babys breath smells like nectar...lol:)

I think the smell of their breath and the smell of their little tubby velvet tums is one of the most lovely smells going ! Somebody should bottle it ! :)

If you have a dog, you will have dog smell, just like when you have a baby, the house smells of baby. It's part of the territory.

A puppy smells nowhere near as strong as an adult dog. Without being callous, perhaps you have chosen the wrong sort of pet?

Oh god I have got it all to come, three Labradors, smelly damp dogs after walks amd swims and doggie pumps then a baby, baby puke and smelly nappies ! :) I don't think we will be having many visitors for a while :(

Two smelly lurchers here, 5 kids, luckily 2 of them past nappy stage, but triplet's nappies soon add up.
I can safely say at certain times of day that our house smells, but air freshener and the window open - it clears up soon enough.;)
And lurchers pump for England :) But nowhere near as much as the husband.

I don't use any air fresheners as they tend to give my husband headaches. We just use good old fashioned fresh air; we open the windows. I'm not sure if my house does smell but with 5 dogs, I don't care. If people don't like it, they don't have to come!

We to have the dog smell, But Id take that any day over the smelly feet smell that prevails when the kids take their shoes off. pheeee uuuuuu.
Spray the couch and curtains with fabreeze.. Yep the dogs bed smells (vet beds seem to get smelly really quickly) use a plug in and buy some pot purri.
Fraid you have a dog the smell is here to stay.

Hi, years ago now, we had some friends to visit with children.. a non doggy family. In my effort to impress i cleaned the house frantically and used glade air freshener and glade carpet powder/shake and vac stuff. My dog was allergic to it and her whole head and nose swelled up, puffy and deformed. i spent a great deal of money on steroids and antihistamine and stuff at the vet to get her right again, and I felt dreadfully guilty. While the visitors were with us their youngest child puked all over my carpet!!!

I will never ever do that again or use stupid offensive cleaning chemicals. Sopa and water is good enough and I also use non bio washing powder for the dog beds. We now live in a house which we have modernised to have all hard flooring downstairs/ wood or ceramic tile and this is much easier to clean than carpets. We now have have 4 large hairy water loving dogs, who eat disgusting things and regurgitate them frequently! To be honest i really never notice any smell any more, not even in the car which my daughter tells me is awful! in fact I adore the way my dogs smell. I much prefer them to people and if I visit peoples clean tidy nice smelling un dog haired houses I feel very uncomfortable and out of place. I also no longer want to have any non dog people in my house. I appreciate this is not the case for you (yet) but you will get used to it and the pups good points will hopefully outweigh the bad.

my mum absolutely hates the smell of my "doghouse" as she calls it, even though everything is clean and regularly washed. non doggy people often hate it.i myself cant stand the smell of hospitals and people on buses....I wont go into details at teatime.anyway my point is that you will get used to your puppys various smells and dogginess, thats what makes them so adorable:)
- By turtle [gb] Date 03.06.03 16:41 UTC
oh, yeah, I can often be found sniffing my dog's tum or head - he's no pup, but I just adore the smell!!!

His breath, hmm, not quite so great, especially after a bowlful of sardines!

I just love reading what you guys write, you show you love your dogs soooooo much, its great, im that way too, and i love to blow raspberries on my dogs tummies, non doggy people , who needs em!
- By rachaelparker [gb] Date 04.06.03 07:55 UTC
yeah I blow raspberries too. My boyfriend thinks I'm insane AND disgusting (he's a non doggy person too) although I did catch him kissing her goodnight on her nose the other night!!!!!!!!!!!!
- By miloos [gb] Date 04.06.03 08:37 UTC
aaah rachael my hubby said "i'm more of a cat person myself!", when he first came round 6 years ago and i had two dogs, now we have four and he is absolutely besotted with them, but not as dog mad as me!!:)

Hi Malachite,

What a strange name you have, may I ask what breed of puppy you have??

We have always had Northern/Spitz breeds of dogs Samoyed and Malamutes and the fortunately do not give off that offensive 'doggy odour'. Except wind of course.

When you have four Mal's that live in house that is a bonus and I frequently ask visitors if they can 'smell' them, which they always reply no. I do have those plug in room fragrances and find they are not over powering.

Regards,

Jenny & The Wintersperre Gang.

Isn't Malachite a very pretty semi-prescious stone?

Malachite has certain healing properties... Malachite assists you in finding your life's calling. It clears away negative blocks allowing you to blossom into all you can be.

It helps you take ownership of your own energy, allowing yourself to see how you gave it away to others.
