Hi, I have 2 (sometimes crazy) dogs and I have carpets which I am in the process of removing. I was going to do pergo laminate flooring, but after some research, I have decided I don't want pergo. Now I am considering ceramic tiles. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with dogs on ceramic tiles or if anyone knows any problems I might have?
Thanks!

I have sealed slate tiles, thoroughly washable and quite rough under foot so the dogs never slip, and rugs for a bit more softness :)
I have ceramic tiles throughout the ground floor, they are brilliant, we went for the non slip type. The only time I have to be careful with them is when I wash them over once a day, but they soon dry and the house smells a whole lot better since having them.
I use A.D.D. Disenfectant on them once a day, wouldn't go back to anything else now.

I have the sealed slate tiles like Isabel and find them great for the dog as he spends a lot of time in the kitchen. I also have wood veneer laminate in the majority of the house and although it can be slippery when wet, it's never really caused a problem.

We have both. We have ceramic tiles in the conservatory, sorry dog room, and then have just had laminate flooring throughout the rest of the downstairs floor. They are both very good and so much better than carpet ! We were thinking about tiles in the dining and kitchen but opted for the laminate as they have taken over the conservatory and so we wanted to keep some of the house to ourselves ! LOL We are having to get used to the tippie toe noise of them walking on the laminate floors but at least we know when they are upto something ! It is so easy to clean and looks great !

Hi, We have laminate flooring everywhere in the house, and it's brill!
Quick swiff and mop and we're good as new - The only downside is Baillie still hasn't mastered the art of doing a 3 point turn without sliding :) :) It's very amusing to watch him, stand on the last stair, trying to figure out how he's going to get out the front door, at the quickest speed possible!!!
I have stuck down some rugs though, so he's more confident - it's those hairy pads - they get him every time!! :)
By the way, could I ask what is A.D.D distinfectant?

We have Pergo laminate, the natural touch one which is matt finish so not so slippery. The dogs will still slide around if turning at a fast pace though. We also have slate and limestone flooring, both are great with the dogs and so easy to keep clean. They live in the conservatory with the limestone floor, also has underfloor heating for the winter - great they love it (so do we.)
You can use those duster mops for sweeping, they are great as the hair sticks to them and doesn't float over like when you sweep with a broom.

The best thing about hard flooring is that you can tell when the dogs' nails need a cut - if you can hear the nails tip-tapping on the floor, they're overdue a trim!

It is driving me up the wall since we had the floor put in last week with the tip tapping ! We have ended up taking Min the oldie to have her claws done under sedation at the vets as the black and decker tool didn't fool her and tried with a larger file but she would have any of it ! We didn't want to have it done that way but they were getting far too long to be comfortable.
She still makes a noise as she has got very long quicks ! Do you think some house boots might be an answer ? If they have non slip pads on it may be better for her as she does find it a bit difficult with the slippy laminate. The other two are fine !
What do you think ?? Do they do such a boot ??

Ceramics in the kitchen and porch.
Laminate in the hall, living room and dining room.
Carpet upstairs & pn the stairs although they are slowly eating that. Could well become completely laminate soon.

Its a brilliant disinfectant that I buy from Crommesol at the Champ Shows. Wallace Cameron in Glasgow distribute it. But the man on the Crommesol stand is very nice and does a good deal if you twist his arm. :-D
It smells wonderful, doesn't stain and is concentrated, you use it on a 1:100 Dilution, so a Gallon container last for ages and ages.
I use it for all disinfecting jobs around the house as well as outside on the patio.
Best thing I have found is that in one of those spray jobbies, (from garden centres), it is super for those nasty marking smells, that my dogs leave when we have bitches in season.

Where do you get the slate and limestone flooring, Im thinking of removing my hall carpet and am going to either just use lino for the kitchen and hall, but, I like the sound of the flooring you are using. Is it expensive.

Our came from wicks, worked out about £12-13 a sq metre I think with the mortar etc, my husband laid it himself so I don't know the cost of that - just cups of tea for me :)
we have sanded and painted the floors in our house, up and down the stairs, we have lino in the kitchen at the moment put are waiting for the kitchen to be sorted and then will be having a stone floor. It cuts down on nasty smells and is so much easier to clean, the 3 four legged fiends spend the day in te kitchen with a baby gate stopping access to the living room then go in the living room of an evening, theyre grateful at this time of year tough kitchen the coolest place to be and kids leave them alone. Painting was a lot cheaper as well cuprinol varnish dries in half hour can be walked on in 2 hours

Slate isn't expensive but the limestone is. I am lucky I work for a company that sells stone flooring so I get it a lot cheaper. Can't beat it for looks. I have slate in the hallway and limestone in the conservatory which is where the dogs sleep. Will get around to doing the kitchen one day!!
Don't think I am allowed to advertise on the forum, but feel free to e.mail me privately if you want to know where to get it.
