We have had our Staffi for close to a year now (we think he's about 2 yrs old), he came from a rescue home and has taken a while to settle down. He seems to be so much happier when the house is full with people or more so with other dogs. We've been thinking about getting another dog to keep him company when we are out of the house,as he really hates being on his own. We are unsure what type of dog/age of dog would be best. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Prefgerably not another Bull breed, as from my understanding they should not be left together unsupervised, as if a game gets out of hand it can end in a bad fight with neither backing down.

I would get a member of a medium size breed that is known for being very sociable non dominant with other dogs.

Archer on this site has a staff with my breed. I also know that many Gundog breeds even the Stud males can be happily kept toggether in mixed sex households.

Brainless is right I have a staff and 2(soon to be 3) elkhounds-all male and they get on great-in fact the staff has been a wonderful 'nanny' dog when the elks were pups

Sorry Brainless

I dont often disagree with you but I feel I must.

I would only recomend another bull breed or X bull breed as bullys get on well with thier own kind. Not two of the same sex though, and separate them when left alone. I have had APBTs and Staffs and crosses together all at once and had no problems. If you are a strong enough leader the dogs will not feel the need to fight if they know thier place in the pack and they know that you control the pack and thier place in it.

As the poster primarily wanted a companion for the staff I had thought the need for seperating them would defeat the object somewhat, hence my suggestion of a laid back breed that wouldn't get the staffs dander up :D quite happy to be corrected by those in the know :D

I Understand where you are coming from but I still wouldnt leave a bully alone for any length of time with any other animal.
Ive always been very cautious because of my breed choice. Dont want to be a statistic in the war on certain breeds.
If Harry doesnt feel confident enough to have multiple bull breeds then fair enough get another breed.
Glad you missed me, its nice to know I have an impact. Regards Mick.
