Hi, i wander if anyone could tell me the average price of a cavalier king charles puppy? While i have been looking for a puppy I have found quite a variation in prices, with some breeders asking between £400 and £500, and others asking between £500 and £750. I understand that if you want a good quality pup you should expect to pay a bit more, but what is the average price i should be expecting??
Erin
Hi, I think £750 is a little too expensive.
There were gorgeous Cav's in our area going for £400 to pet homes. Different colours will fetch different prices. I think at the moment the tri's are fetching the least amount of money.

I did think £750 was getting a bit pricey! I am looking for a pup with a view to showing so was expecting to pay a bit more than pet prices, but not nearly twice as much! Thanks for your input, and i will continue my search for a pup.

Hi, The price of Cavalier pups has increased dramatically over the last 2 - 3 years. For a pet pup £350 - £500 would appear to be about the average in the North, not sure about southern prices! You can uaually expect to pay a premium of about £50 to £100 more for the solids (Ruby and Black & Tans) over the Partis (Belnehim & Tris) even in the same litter! This could be because they are not quite so easy to get hold of now. I still get phone calls for Cav pups and I have not bred a litter for over 4 years! Talking to the keeper of the Northern Club puppy list they consistently have more searchers than pups avaiable (often no pups listed at all for a couple of months at a time)
bye

There does seem to be a shortage of cavalier pups at the moment, i've been looking for about 3 months now! I think my search is harder though because i am looking for a pup with the aim of showing, i used to show cockers and my family breed and show irish setters. I am desperate to get back in the ring, but I know I must be patient and will find the right puppy.....eventually!!

just noticed a sign on a lamp post askin for information on a 'missing' (i guess for missing read 'stolen') king charles cavalier. made me feel very sad. It didn't look very old on the picture either. I was scouring the park with tilly hoping to see it, but of course i didnt. Some £$&(*^&%&$ ^probably thought they'd make a fast buck on a sought after breed.

sorry - not really relevant to the post

I know how you feel, I hate hearing about dogs being taken or going missing, they must get so confused and bewildered. When i was a little girl we had a 5 month collie cross retriever stolen from our back garden, she looked like a pure bred goldie. We never recovered her and i hate to think what happened to her, even now years later i think about her. I thinks that the worst thing for people who's dogs go missing, not knowing! I hope they find this little cav and it all ends happily.

Average price is £400-450.Although I know of a 'successful' breeder who charges £500 for a pet quality Cav. By the way Mittens' you have a Blenheim Cavalier not 'red & white! lol.

Thanks for that information, i think the general consensus would be between £400 and £500. I have put aside £500 for the puppy, but was quite startled when i saw people were asking upto £750. I understand the demand is high for this breed at the moment, but this did seem rather steep. My mother has a litter of irish setter pups which were spoken for in the first 2 weeks of birth and we now have a waiting list, but never dreamt of hiking up the price!

Hi Erin,
I am in the south and know that quality pups from parents with heart/eye tests done are selling for about £550-£650 here at the moment. I don't actually know of anyone that will sell a show quality puppy as I looked for years only to find that to buy a show quality cavie you have to wait on a list to buy a 6 month old pup that a breeder has kept to run on. I never actually managed to find a breeder willing to do this but was advised on plenty of occasions that this was the thing to do!!!!
Good Luck in your search

Hi Debbie,
I have also been told the same thing, and it's part of the ckcs club rules that a pup can't be sold as show potential until its 6 months, i have been told this is because cavaliers can change so much. But as you say if a pup at 6 months does have show potential, the breeder isn't really going to let it go, they want to show it themselves! Who can blame them! I do feel that choosing a puppy with that certain something can be such a hit and miss thing, even a puppy at 6 months that shows great potential can change and become unsuitable. I am hoping that with all the research, looking back on lines, seeing show results etc. that i will find a 'quality' puppy, with good health and a good representation of the breed standard. Not necessarily a great show winner, but a quality, healthy pup to start my own line. And at the end of the day, if she doesn't end up as 'show quality' she will definately be a much loved member of the family! Sorry to ramble on!
Thank you all for your advice!

Hi
I paid £450 last March for a Ruby, and £450 last November for a Blenheim. Different breeders, both ladies show their dogs.
The Blenheim could be shown, in fact her breeder is still trying to encourage me to start. (The pups litter brother and sister, who the breeder has kept, have already qualified for Crufts.)
Both pups were bought for "pets", so I didn't pay any difference.
Perhaps it depends on how successful that breeder is at the time?
Sami
Edit for PS.... Both pups came with insurance, eye and heart certificates from parents, wormed, food, instructions (!!!) KC papers, full pedigree etc etc etc. And both breeders are still in touch, and me with them, for progress reports and chats. My pups send them e mails with photos....lol!
