Don't know how it can be termed silver, as it is dilute Brown, which in Rabbits would be called Lilac, and in some dog breeds is termed Isabella (Dobe). It is the same colour as Weims are.

I suppose you could conceivably also get blue if these were bred to Black?

The more colours a breed has the more scope there seems to be for breeding just for colour instead of a decnt specimin.

I am glad that my breeed only has one colour pattern, and even then there are preferences among some people for light or Dark shade, but at least when judging or picking puppies colour isn't a particular factor. As long as tyhe colour is clear and there is minimum white.

if you do a yahoo search on silver labs it brings a few more kennels up. if you look at the 'labs' heads the look like weims, this is probably due to outcrossing to weims to get the silver colour in the line then breeding back to labs to keep them as 'pedigree' dogs, the AKC doesnt recognise them as a colour so they are registered as chocolate, lets hope the the KC here wont recognise them at all. Breeders in america are also tryingto prove that they are crosses but as in most cases now the pups are born to 2 choc parents and DNA testing only varifys the parents not the lineage or any crosses further back. I came across the site by mistake, lets just hope that unscrupulous people dont bring them in.
