CAN ANYBODY OUT THERE OFFER ANY ADVICE? I HAVE AN 8 MONTH OLD YELLOW LAB PUP. SHE HAS A MAJOR PROBLEM OF MOUTHING AND BITING AND JUMPING WHEN SHE GETS EXCITED. WE HAVE TRIED TO IGNORE HER, WE HAVE SMACKED HER ON THE NOSE AND STILL NO USE. CAN ANYONE OFFER ANY ADVICE ON WHICH WAY TO GO NOW.

You are at a point now where you should be running out of the biting, finger chewing period. At 8 months old she is still very young though and at that age excitment can so easily bring on another bout of niping. While I might disapline my dogs, be careful of smacking on the nose. A dog can see the hand coming, feel the sting and realise just what caused it. in time it could get to try to stop hands getting near it and the only way of doing that is to bite the hand.
A better way is to stand up and turn your back on the puppy. Tuck your hands under your arms so there are no hands available to grab hold of. I give a very firm "NO" as soon as it starts and always have plenty of toys around for a puppy to play with.
Best wishes, John
