My 9 week old male Schnauzer puppy has the worse breath! ACK! I got him some toothpaste and I've been cleaning as much as he will let me. I hear garlic pills help breath, fleas and ticks? What can I do to remedy this nasty puppy breath?

I would take him to the vets. Normally, pups at that age don't have a bad breath problem - are you sure he has nothing lodged or stuck right at the back? What are you feeding him on?

That is very unusual in a puppy of that age, they usually have the most sweetest breath imaginable.
Has he been wormed recently as sometimes that can be a cause of bad breath, or as Chloe says has he got something stuck at the back of his mouth or lodged in his teeth?

The breeder fed him Perina Puppy but I am slowly introducing him to Eukanuba. I checked and he doesn't have anything in this throat

Did he have bad breath on the Purina? Or just since the Eukanuba? Perhaps you would be better leaving him on the breeders diet for a while till he settles... what breed is he? You could also get him a meaty bone from the butcher, that should help scrub up his teeth a bit - but I would say the vet should be the next stop :)
Edited - just read he's a schnauzer. I'd put him back on his old food - what else is he eating - how many meals is he on a day?

The breeder said he was wormed about 4 weeks ago. He doesnt drag his butt on the floor, he does scratch and bite at his back legs sometimes.

We have only had him for a week, I have noticed his breath getting worse. Maybe I should put him back on is old food?
If you put Eukanuba into your search engine, I'm sure you'll find out lots of info on this food :(
Perhaps his old food was better for him.

As other posters have said, a puppy's breath is normally very sweet and totally inoffensive!
Most breeders (and vets) recommend that you keep a new pup on the food he's been used to for at least 2 weeks before
gradually changing his diet. Changing homes is incredibly stressful, and can cause an upset stomach in itself - changing the food at the same time will only aggravate it.
I would give him a higher proportion of what his digestive system was used to for a week or two to settle him down again.
Hope this helps.

hi ,
and not to forget puppies should be wormed every month until 6 months of age.
Bulldogowner is right. The puppy should have been wormed at 8 weeks (either by the breeder just before leaving, or by you after the vet check) and then again at 12 weeks. Then on, every month until 6 months. After that, usually about once every 3-4 months according to your vet's advice. HTH.

I figured out it was his beard, not his breath! I washed his face and he smells sweet again. He's so darn cute!

Hi Malachite,
I too have a mini schnauzer dog aged 8mths.
Yep, there beards can get really dirty because they just love to
stick their faces into all sorts of filthy, smelly places!! :-)
I wipe Rufus' face and beard every day with a warm damp cloth,
and then give his beard a good scrub whilst he is in the bath
once a week with puppy shampoo. Hence, his beard always
looks and smells clean and fluffy!!
