Hi i'm wondering if anyone can advise?

Is it against the law to slash hedges in the middle of the breeding season I thought it was?
The field next to us is full of nests, pidgeons, black birds yellow hammers. The village football team manager who doesn't live in the village
slashed into all the hedgerows sending branches etc all over the car when I tried to get him to stop he just laughed and swore at me.

The police have a wildlife officer who is getting back to us has he cmmitted an offence?
I feel sorry for these birds and my car of course -no damage done but thats not the point.

Anyone know the law??

what do you mean by slashing into them?
Are they his hedges?
You can trim hedges anytime, although its an offense to actually interfere with birds nests/eggs.....I doubt that the act of cutting a hedge would be considered interfering with egggs though, as its not intended.
If however you mean he was damaging someone elses hedge...then thats criminal damage.

Sam he was using a tractor powered hedge flail (spelling ?) not a pair of hedge trimmers and severly damaging
hedges and trees in more than one field.
