I have a 4 month old Flat Coated Retriever who is always sick in the car starting on the day we brought her home. I take for a short journey most days but she is still sick. Will she grow out of it or is there anything I can do?

Hi Guest
My 6 month old GSD has always been the same, but now I give him 4 drops of Bachs Rescue Remedy about 1 hour before a trip and this helps with the stress of travelling. Your pup will get better eventually, but by giving her this it may help her along the way.

You could try giving her a ginger biscuit before you go out.

Hello there!
You could start by sitting in the car when stationary with him to start with, then building up with driving just a couple of yards and increasing the distance gradually. This worked for our little pup.

Hi, we had this problem with our young pup. We tried all sorts, taking him short journeys with a treat at the end - like a play in the park. Sitting stationary, even feeding him in the car (but not going anywhere!!)
Then a friend suggested 'Sea Legs' from the chemists (children's dose) apparently it works differently from traditional car sickness pills as it works on the motion of boats. We gave him it 2 hours before we were due to go out and again half an hour before we were due to go out. By the end of the packet (about 5 trips) he was jumping in the car and hasn't been sick since. We have never needed to buy any more. We recently travelled 5 hours in the car to Southern Counties and he just slept all the way with no pills or anything.

Hi, I agree with Dotty.
SeaLegs was recommended to me as well, just give him a childrens dose, corresponding roughly with his size to the age of a child, apparently it's supposed to be brill!! :) no more messy blankets or stinky cars:) :)
It's got to be worth a try. I must add, however, that I haven't tried it, my dog isn't sick in the car, he just takes ages to settle, pants a lot and just seems to want to be anywhere else, except the car!!!
Let us know how you get on.

Thick rubber matting under the travelling area can reduce any static electricity in the car.
