I have two 5 yr old German shepard dogs, and yes like you all many patches of dead grass. Has anyone come up with any solutions to assist in the neutralising the odour restoring my lawn.
I have been told to put tomato juice in their food, and will try it but to early to report its success, yes we try to water it but hell try following two big dogs all day long, I am will ing to try anything so hope you have some ideas.

Hiya Roy.
I personally don't like the idea of adding anything to their diets to solve the problem, but thats just me.
A good suggestion though, that i've learned, is to grow extra grass (from seed) in big tubs. Then you have a fresh lot to put in when you take the dead out.

Hi Roy,
I have in the past had 4 bitches all weeing on the same lawn....the best thing I've found is to leave well alone! If you can, then by all means dilute the wee immediately using a watering can, but if not, it
will grow back green eventually. It may take 6 months, but it will recover.
It's not worth messing around with the acidity of urine, because that can affect the kidneys and cause more serious problems in the long run.
Hope this helps.

I once read that you wash the pee away with 2 gallons of fresh water per pee. Sounds like an awful lot of water to me and before you know it I think your garden would look more like a fish pond. The only other solution I could think of was to get rid of the grass altogether and slab or mono block the area. As I have 4 great danes I gave up on the idea of having a lovely green lawn and slabbed the whole lot. And now it's so easy and good wash over with a hose then a spray of odour kill and hey presto lovely smelling back yard.

Get your garden landscaped with paving slabs and gravel ! That will solve the problem ! Oh yes and you don't have to mow the lawn !! :D
Having three Labs girls we ended up doing this as could do nothing with our lawn !

Just had our garden slabbed and its wonderful(but expensive) .Found that with 3 dogs the garden just couldn't recover so with another arriving later in the year the grass had to go

Hi,
Just read your post. I had the same problem, and with kids too, we had to think of an alternative solution. Therefore we made a speacial area, just for the dogs, on concrete. They instinctively go to that gate now when let out for a wee/pooh. The good thing is that in winter, we don't get the carpets too muddy either!! :)
It is really easy to clean and throw disinfectant down too. This may be a solution as you sound to have enough room to do something like this.

This sounds like a good idea, my neighbour is blind and he had to have a special pen build for his guide dog to use, they are trained to only go in the pen.
Someone did tell me natural live yoghurt in the diet stops the grass getting burnt, I must admit I haven't tried it yet.
