Hello,
I was showing my friends mini smooth Dachshund today (my Ella's older sister) and was horrified to see that the pup in front of me was being pulled about like anything. Alot of this breed aren't the most confident of dogs, but this woman was really taking the mick. She smacked her dog's belly when the judge wasn't looking in the final line up because it was so scared it was almost attached to the ground. She smacked it's bottom with the end of the lead when it flew its tail briefly, only for a few seconds which to me looked like it was just getting its balance. Now I felt so sorry for this pup, it got knocked out the class in the line up so the owner was obviously cross. However she went out of the ring and she had 4 cages stacked on top of each other and she picked the pup up roughly by the scruff of its neck and swung it into its cage. She was pretty rough with all her other dogs but no where near as bad as she was with the puppy. Now there were quite a few mutterings about this woman at the show today and someone said they were going to report it. Now I am not going to throw away £35 to report it myself, but shouldn't you be able to report it freely because it's cruelty to animals? Some of the KC rules don't make sense at all!
Highlight of the day was when Kadi got Best Puppy and Best of Breed and then took group 2 in Hound Puppy!

Think the £35 rule is to stop frivolous or spitefull complaints being put forward. Just imagin if every time your dog beat a certain dogs it's owner went and made a complaint about you for something or the other.

Sorry Charlotte, but if you feel that strongly, put your money where your mouth is.

Thirty five pounds is nothing compared to what that poor animal might suffer in the future, and ,am I right in thinking you get your money back if the case is proven?

Hi, surely the puppy will remember treatment like this and will not enjoy being shown off. I have a pup who has off days (more off than on at the moment) and you just have to perserve, being firm but definitely not cruel - as I'm sure you know. I saw a guy a few years ago smack one off his dogs quite sharply but he's still showing and stewards at some shows. I supppose a lot of people have dogs just for show but treating them harshly surely isn't going to encourage the dog to perform at its best.
