Hello everyone, One of my hairy mutts seems to be continually barking. No, barking is not the right word, more of a squeaky yelling. He does this when he sees me, when its feeding time, when he sees other dogs, when we have visitors. I have tried training him to stop, but no good. I have used a citronella collar, which worked at first, but now he has got used to it, he ignores the spray. He starts his singing about 6.00 in the morning, which dosn't go down too well with the neighbours I'm afraid, and I can't really blame them. Anyone any idea how to stop this, or at least quieten it down?

I bet this is driving you and everyone really mad.
I think first of all you must teach him that you don't speak to him or take any notice when he starts. First try leaving him on his own maybe for just a few minutes when you go back on no account look at him or take any notice of him. Turn you back on him then when he is quiet a little bit of praise. Extend this time gradually then praise him. Feed him at a different time but don't put it down if he starts again wait. Have you tried making him down stay and waiting for the food, that often works.
All visitors must ignore him, as hard as that might be. Hopefully if this works then the 6.00 in the morning should stop, he does it because he knows you will go to him.

Hi,
What breed do you have? Some breed are bred to be noise, like Bearded Collies for example and it is very difficult to keep them quiet.
One good way to stop noisy dogs is to teach them to bark on command and then teach them to be quiet on command, thats what we do with our beardies.
