I still can't do it! I've got a veterinary thermometer, and as Piglet has been a little off-colour I thought I might give it an inaugurative outing. I made the mistake of reading the instructions! (You can tell I'm not a chap ;) ) It has to be inserted between 1 and 2 inches, and must touch the mucus membrane - simply being inserted into the faeces is no good.

That was it. I bottled it! Piglet will have to get over it in his own good time!

I'm ashamed. :o

Now that is the best laugh have had all week!!!

At least your big enough to admit it though :-D :-D

You know what they say practice makes perfect. LOL LOL LOL

Have to admit the first time I started to take temps on bitches I was Bl***y terrifed, so can understand how you feel. Next time you are at your Vets ask him to show you, thats what I did and it really helped.

Just thinking can you get a reading by putting a thermometer under the dogs pit ? Similar thing to do with small children?? I have never taken my dogs temps before and must admit wouldn't cherish the thought of stick it up their bums ! :) I have seen what coems out of there !! :)

Jeangenie....don't be ashamed :D

You are not alone, I've never felt the need to stress myself (or my dogs) by fumbling about with a thermometer! If I'm concerned about them then a trip to the vet is in order and I let him do the honours.

In fact, when my youngest was 3 days late with her recent litter, I spoke to the vet on day 65 and rather guiltily admitted that I hadn't been taking her temperature to which he replied " It would probably be a waste of time in this changeable weather....her temperature will be up and down anyway."

I didn't need told twice, I simply breathed a sigh of relief and put all thought of thermometers firmly out of my mind!!! :D
