We had a bitch come over for a mating today at day 15. She was very keen for our dog and he very keen for her so am sure she was spot on time.
However when he went inside she started screaming and struggling. He at this time had tied. The bitch owner did his best to keep her still and I followed whichever the bitch went with our dog and my hubby held them in the middle to prevent any damage to either. It was hard to turn him as she was going barmy. Could not seperate them as tied. We made the most of a quiet moment and quicky turned him bur she was still screaming on and off. God I could not wait for the tie to end but it continued for near on a b****y hour!
All the other bitches he has mated have not reacted like this and he is very gentle.
She was spot on and very keen for him but then reacted in this way???
Any one else experienced this and any reason why??
I have had to have a glass of wine to get over the shock!!
God knows what the neighbours must think - I was half expecting the police to come round thinking my hubby was murdering me!!! :D

I have had this with a couple of schipperke bitches, one that lives here with our stud dog and one that came for a mating, our home bitch had 3 litters and did the same each time. It can appear very distressing but it don't seem to put them off, well the bitches anyway, my boy was a little upset the first time but with the 2nd 1 he just looked at me like 'oh another one mum?'

I do hold a bitch gentle just in case she does this once they are tied, that way you can reassure her and the dog plus avert the risk of injury to either animal. My dogs only seemed to do it once they had tied not upon entry.

Hi,

Just picked up the thread that you've got puppies and better yet "Staffies"

5 congratulations, what sort of weights? is it her first litter? what colours?

Sorry just generally nosey, I did answer your question on the other thread, Idle chat, not sure if you noticed, with everything you have going on at the moment.

Congratulations again, Karen

Hi Karen
The weights were smallest 2 at 12 and 3 quarter oz, 1 at 13 oz and 2 at 13 and 1 quarter oz.
Two boys white and three girls black and white pieds.
They are all now over a pound in weight and looking very cute :-)

One of my Bullmastiff bitches screamed when she was mated.Instead of turning them rear to rear,we just let the dog stay side by side with her and it seemed to help.

Thanks for that. I will bare that in mind if we ever get another bitch like her. I just hope this one catches this time and does not have to come back in 6 months :D

After all that got a phonecall last night and the bitch is not pregnant :-(.
God I am dreading 6 months time when she comes back!!
In the meantime I have asked the bitch owners to get her checked inside by a vet just incase there is anything not quite right which caused her to scream and also for her not to be pregnant, as she seemed spot on and our male was very keen!
Anyone want to volenteer themselves for a mating in 6 months while me and hubby hide away somewhere??? :D lol :-) or anyone know of a good ear plug supplier??? :D

Hi anne-marie my tabby used to scream as well even second time around. although she was always up for it it worried me the first time and she had seven pups the vet checked her out and nothing wrong inside, and she still screamed we just used to reasure her all the time.

My mum had the same problem with a Goldie bitch screaming at the mating then not being pregnant afterwards. The vet said that it may have been that she was just not quite ready - apparently even just a day early can make a difference to the 'lubrication' - I am not sure how correct this is, but thought I would write anyhow.

My Bitch SCREAMED!!! during her mating I was in tears and 63 days later had seven girls. My vet had told me it could just have been the size of the male. My female was 10lbs and my male is 14.5. Every man is a diffrent size. (LOL)

Thanks for your replies. As long as the vet says everything is OK then we will have her back for a re-mating.
Ordered some industrial ear muffs ready for then :D
