Topic Dog Boards / General / Vet in Calais or Tours?
- By cissy Date 29.05.03 08:39 UTC
Hi
We are off to France [Loire Valley] with the rabies-proof dog next week! I was hoping someone would have a name/address of a vet they have used in Calais [or even better Tours] to get the flea/tick treatment that is required to return to the UK? My vet did not know of any.

thanks
Cissy

Don't forget to treat him for ticks and fleas before you go! That is something many owners forget, and their dog gets infected during the holiday and falls ill on their return.
Have a good time, though!

thanks JG - he gets Adult Frontlined every 2 months and last time was end of April so vet reckons he should be ok till end of June. He did have a tick in his armpit [ok legpit]a few weeks ago but it came out easily and was dead [looks like Frontline working well!].
I am a bit annoyed that I have to find a French vet to do something as basic as a Frontline but I guess the bureaucracy is worth it to be able to take him with us.
Can't wait though - and neither can he [he just loves French girls  ].

Have you contacted DEFRA for a list of vets 'sur le Continong' able to do this?
:)

thanks for making me go back to the Defra site when I had given up on it.
As usual it was not until my 10th reading of the PETS Scheme section that I finally found the useful link to French yellow pages below:

To find a vet, you need to put in "Animal" in business type which brings up a choice of animal businesses including "veterinary surgeons" and then type in the town.
I've found a few but as I have no idea of competence I'm afraid I must pick the one with the dishiest name. ;) "Pascale Lageot" sounds like he would look rather cute snapping the seal on the Frontline and dropping it on the dog.

I think Pascale is one of those unisex names - it may be your Other Half who enjoys watching the snapping of the tube! ;)

LOL! I forgot about that name being a girl's name! That means I have to watch 2 males with their tongues hanging out

Console yourself - names can be deceptive! I once knew a monstrously ugly girl called Angel!

:) - as I'm easily amused my consolation will be watching husband employ his terribly "English" French to demander un certificat officiel pour le retour de notre animal en Grande-Bretagne accompanied by much pointing at dog and imitation of ticks in armpits.

Lol! My husband's "franglais" extends to "Ou est le beer? C'est gone!" :D
