Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Best place for dog show listings?
- By Jo19 [gb] Date 26.05.03 15:33 UTC
Hello again

Can anyone tell me whether there is a mail-order type magazine/newspaper available which lists all dog shows etc (or even better, a website)?

Thanks

Jo

Try Fosse Data on the net and Prodogs
We access the Staffy sites and most of them have the listings on for the Staffy shows .
Have a look and see if your breedclubs are on the net .
I imagine Our Dogs and that type of magazine will have details too . :)
Ringcraft classes normally have schedules for forthcoming shows too

Hi Jo,

Most people interested in the show scene subscribe to one or both of the weekly newspapers, Our Dogs or Dog World. They both have all champ and open shows listed as they come along during the year, with reminders for closing dates for entries etc. Then after the shows they publish the judges' write-ups and show results. Available from most large newsagents, like WH Smiths. HTH! :)

The Kennel Gazette lists all doggie events like Field Trials, Open and Champ Shows, Agility etc. and you can subscribe to this monthly publication for about £15 (annually) from the KC. Alternatively I'm bound to have a recent copy somewhere I can post to you and if you are interested you can subscribe. I usually just throw mine out once I've read them anyway :-)

Hi Claire,
I don't suppose you have the Kennel Gazette with stories and pictures 'around the scenes' at Crufts?I think my dogs were photoed for it, and I never got to see it. :(

Sorry it's took me ages to reply, been really busy.

Had a quick check through my kennel gazettes, not many I'm afraid as I tend to throw them out. I've got January's and then I can't find anything until May :-( Doesn't look like I'll have the one you are looking for, however as we are just about to complete our building work I may come across some other copies, if I do I'll be sure to post here. :-)

Thanks for the info everyone.

I've never seen Dogs World or Our Dogs in WHSmith, but will ask at my local and see if I can order it.

Claire B - would you recommend getting Kennel Gazette? Is it a decent read?

Can't believe the weekend's nearly over. :(

Hi Jo

If its general champ shows you are interested in, then you could try the Dogs on Tour website, they have a list of cham shows throughout the year and who you can contact etc... the web address is www.dogsontour.com

HI Jo,
Find yourself a local ringcraft class they will have all the local open shows for you to attend. I find they are quite good. Otherwise as others have suggested for champ shows etc. Does the breeder show? She /he might also have some suggestions for shows

Not long now I reckon. weeeee time is flying. Dont forget sleep in, eat your tea on your lap, go out till all hours of the night, watch DVD's with not interruptions, enjoy your small food shopping excursions, lie on your doggy free carpet .....cause it will all change soon.

Burning itchy tired eyes for a few weeks, tea, coffee and wine spills everywhere – carpets - keyboard, your carpet looking like a bomb zone - wet spots and dog biscuit crumbs, no more late nights weekends away, constant kitchen floor mopping (never been so clean our floor) No more romantic evenings snuggled up together watching the latest DVD , going to the shop for milk and bread and coming home with 6 bags full of dog food..

Ahhhh the joy the peace the quiet. NOT!!!
Pups hey dontcha just love em.

Right, that's it, Cam's going back!

Hehe, nope, I'm actually looking forward to all that, fool that I am. I've done so much research, annoyed the hell out of the local vets interrogating them about vaccines, pacing up and down my local pet food store complaining about the lack of choice. I just hope that if I ever have kids I plan as well for the occasion as well as I have done for Cam!

Jacky, am I right in thinking that you're planning on showing Sydney? If so that would be really cool ... we're bound to meet up at some show or other!

Hi Jo, yep your right I do intend to show Sydney. (If he ever behaves himself and doesnt show me up) He can start end of July so thats when Im out and about with him. I just want him to be as friendly as possible and having to stand around for hours on end then having a complete strangers touch him in all the spots hopefully will ensure he is as placid as possible. A few ribbons here and there wouldnt go asray either (grin)

I also am starting him in three weeks in an new classes (outgrown puppy socialisation classes). He will learn the recall, retrieve and scent descrimination all good things to keep him active and entertained. He is getting good he can tell the what item I want when I say rope. His favourite game tug wacking and tug.. wacking cause he shakes his knotted rope so hard that it wacks into his shoulders. It hurts me when he hits me with it, I dont know how he can stand it. Dumb dawg

Oh the joys you have to look forward to. Im excited for you cause it is a wonderful experience getting a little pup. THey are so tiny and clumsy, Sydney used to be able to run under the coffee table at full speed when we got him, now he has to crouch to get under. phew he's grown and still growing. His stands about 20 inches at his shoulders. A mere baby. My baby (grin)

Hi Jo,

I'm still searchi8ng for my Dobe. one of my hopes died last week when the breeders girl hatched 6 boys!! I looking for a bitch if you remember. My second hope is expected to hatch next week and the third hope two weeks after that. I have everything crossed. I'm so envious of you and Jacky and Bev (Jaffa) and Debbie(Jewel).

If I ever get my Dobe, I hope to show as well. I go to all the shows at the moment, searching for breeders with litters. I went to The Dobermann Club champ show yesterday. Nothing but Dobes all day - heaven. So far I've been to Bath, Uxbridge, Newark, Malvern(WELKS) and the National (Stafford). The same people turn up at all the shows and we are getting to know some of them. They are all really nice and helpful.

I can't remember where you live but The Midland Dobermann Club has an Open show at Belper Leisure Centre in Derbyshire next Sunday (June 8th)

Ooops - ypu pick up Cam - sorry forgot already.

Anyway good luck. I'm sure you'll have a great time with Cam. I look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Hello to Jaffa, Jewel and Jacky

Hi Annie

So sorry to hear you didn't get your dobe in the litter you were waiting for. Hopefully the next one will produce the little girl you are longing for. Fingers crossed for you. Taz is doing great she has grown so much, and she is soooo cute:D Let us all know how things go with the next litter. All the best

Hi again Annie

Poor you missing out on another chance! Remind me again when you are hoping to be able to pick up a puppy? I can ask my breeder if he knows of any possible litters which will be ready around that time.

Jaffa - I bet Taz is enormous now!

Picking up Cam on Friday ... the time really has flown!

Don't worry about finding your girl - I'm sure there'll be at least one in one of the three litters you've got your eye on.

Hi Annie,

So sorry to hear that you have missed out again on a pup. If you change your mind and want a boy we have one going housetrained, can sit stay down etc when he chooses to listen to you. Will come back after he has finished playing with his mates and will eat you out of house and home. Oh yeah needs his own chair as he demands to sit on the couch...

Just kidding.. Sydney is our baby and wouldnt part with him even if he does is a willfull disobedient unmanageable trying hmm (Bev have I left anything out)... te he he. He is getting better just continually keeps you on your toes. Give him an inch and he will take a mile. We have given up on trying to keep him off the couch however. Only time he behaves himself is when he is sitting regally on the couch surveying all and sundry under his nose. Having to seriously think about getting him his own chair and get rid of the 2 seater. (any excuse to get a recliner ahhh thats for me not Syd.)

Hope all is well with the dobe gang and hope to see you all at the shows soon. ooooohhh waiting for 21 July to come then we are out and about. Ill let you know when we enter our first show so you can send me support. Wont be long now.

Hi again,

Forgot to mention, I get Dog World, Our Dogs, Kennel Gazette, K9 etc ....
They list all the shows and are a good read as well.

Re: Dog World and Our Dogs -
You can subscribe online for 6 months trial. It arrives every Thurday in the post.
I can't remember how much it is but its not too much. I have to say they are very similar so I won't subscribe to both when the current year ends. I personally prefer Dog World but its only a personal thing - there isn't much in it.

I also prefer Dog World - but recently subscribed to the online version of Our Dogs which is cheaper than buying the actual magazine so I can get information from both

Calling all you dobe people! Will any of you be showing/spectatoring at Darlington this year? If so we should arrange to meet up! (I'm definitely going as I practically live on the show ground).

Jo

Three days to go, ho hum.
- By annieee [gb] Date 03.06.03 19:22 UTC
Thanks for the messages, it cheered me up. Sometimes I think I'll never get my pup. I know Jaffa and Jo had to wait ages. Still back to the drawing board.

:)

If it makes you feel any better Annie I waited nearly six months ... blimey, I've been on Champdogs for nearly six months! Amazing how time flies when you're waiting for a pup.
