Hi everyone, Well I have just got a new seven week old female Jack Russell but my sister who lives 2 doors away has a four year old male Bull Mastiff. My sister has had her Bull Mastiff for a few months he is a great dog and really laid back and he has got along with cats and dojs before...
but the question I am asking what is the best way in which I can introduce the pair? Please help as I am very keen on getting this right!! Even if they get along is there a danger is the bull mastiff playing too rough for the Jack Rusell liking??

Hi,
I would always recomend a meeting on neutral ground, under controlled conditions, ie. both dogs on leads, but loose leads so as not to send the wrong signals down to the dogs.
Make sure you both relax, but be prepared to whisk your pup out of the way if things get a bit rough, but don't make a thing of it. Let them both walk together, and have a quick sniff, but don't let your pup grab at the Mastiffs ears or face and don't let the Mastiff bully your pup.
If your pup hasn't had jabs yet, a friends garden (safe from unvaccinated dogs) would be a good place to start.
Good luck and have fun. :)

Hi as Manda said take them out side of there garden on leads keep calm dont make a big thing of it just put pup on ground and stand and talk to your sister let her dog just do his own thing but under your watchful gaze and then just walk a little if all seems well take back to your place keep them on leads and go out into your garden just for a few mins, do this as much as you can also give Bullmastiff pups cover to have, it all helps, are they the same sex? if so you do need to be just that little bit more aware my Bullmastiffs will say hello to others and live happily at home with Bulldogs and Cane-Corso but are watched and never left alone best of luck Jackie.
