Has anyone ever shown a dog with a bad mouth. My maltese bitch bred from myself came from parents with good mouths and who always produce good mouths.

I have been out of the showing scene for about 9 years and am starting back now my own kids are old enough. I am going to show my Newfie Bitch and a Cocker bitch both in puppy and junior classes.

I have a beautiful Maltese who is perfect in every possible way except her mouth. She is undershot with one tooth missplaced. In the past I have been under judges who have their own preferences in good points in a dog and wonder is it worth doing anything with her? She is the best I have owned with the exception of this mouth.

Hi,
One of my aussie bitches is undershot, and I am sorry to say that 9 out of 10 judges, throw her down the line at Open Shows. I haven't attempted a Champ Show with her, as I got so disheartened........ She is a lovely bitch, the rest of her conforms to the breed standard and she has a real ''look at me'' attitude when in the ring. I have had one judge in 18 months that placed her first on movement.... he loved her, but these type of judges, seem to be very few and far between....
Hope you have more luck than I have had, saying that I adore my bitch and have much more fun doing agility and obedience with her........ I wouldn't swap her for the world...:-)

I may try her at open shows as my son wants to try handling and I don't want him handling my Newfie. At the end of the day win or not I go to enjoy myself. I have never been tempted by champ shows they are too expensive to enter, howver if Shasz my Newf, does well we shall have to reconsider.

I wouldn't swap Meddow either she is great and maybe we will have something as nice in this litter:)

What breed is your dog, aussie what? I got followed by a cattle dog once in Australia and she was sooo beautiful I could have snuck home with her :) Always wanted one but hubby says NO:(

But then again he said I could never have a Newfoundland as they are too big and now we have 2, and avidly looking for a third.!!!!!!

Hi,
She is an australian shepherd bitch, 21 months old, blue merle with the best temperament in the world........ As I said before, she has real ''attitude'' and the biggest and fastest ''wiggle butt'' you have ever seen.
She is one happy girl..... It is a shame more judges can't see beyond her mouth, but there you go, their loss, at the end of the day, I take the best dogs in the world home:-)
Good Luck with your dog, I hope your son does well with her.....
I don't know how true it is, but I have been told in the past that some judges will allow it more in some breeds than in others, hope this is the case in yours.......:-)

From what I can gather reading breed notes there are some bad mouths about, I was told by a breeder I know, it is to do with trying to get the short face, in Maltese as they have a tendancy to be a bit 'beaky'. My old dog had a perfect mouth but elbows pointed out a little and he got placed behind a dog with a terrible mouth as the judge said to me afterwards 'he was a front end man and all dogs had to be perfect there nothing else mattered', he even admitted my dog was better in all over aspects than the dog in first place! I was happy with second and we had a good day out though :D
