is anyone else having the same probs getting their teens to revise for their imminent gcses?my daughter has gone away with my parents to a quiet cottage in the lakes to "revise", but her friend has mysteriously turned up to "help" her.this was not part of the deal, i am really livid, my mum thinks my daughter is an angel and i am the bitch from hell for giving her a blasting on the phone.help!!!:)ps i am a teacher so i am well aware of all the scams...

Have you tried offering your daughter a large cash reward if she gets say, at least 6 A-C grades? If anything gets her motivated that might. :D

Sorry no suggestions (tried them all and failed with my TT (Teenhage Terror)) Just bucket loads of sympathy as I was the B***h from hell too. lol.
Having said that there's always hope - mines doing really well in college now!! - just a late starter I guess. :) :)

We did the cash approach with the Boy last year. Sliding scale of payment - the higher the grade, the more money he got. It worked (Hurrah!) Cost us a fortune (Boo!)
It's the delights of AS-levels now (which sadist dreamed them up  )

thanks everyone i've mentioned the cash incentive but she's spoiled sh...less by my parents and also works, i'm afraid i look like the baddy here yet again.i know it's only a phase, but if i'd known then what i know now i'd have stuck to dogs instead.they're easy in comparison:)she will pass her gcses as shes really clever but i want to see some revision being done, i'm a stickler like that!!

I passed all my GCSEs without doing any kind of formal revision at all - just going over my books again was enough for me, so maybe your daughter is like me ? I surpassed all my predicted grades and in Science, where I kept running out of inclination to revise, I got 98% in total.

Try not to worry too much, she's probably just as concerned by it all and if the worst comes to the worst she can resit them later on, and you can torture her then with lots of "I told you so"s :D

i know so did i, and they are not as stringent now with the coursework making up a lot of the marks.she will do ok, i'm just sick of being the bad guy, but i guess that goes with the territory.parenthood who'd do it?not me ever again:)

When I had my oldest I was told by the midwife that from now on I have to shoulder all the responsibility of being the 'bad guy' and I'll never be popular again until I'm a granny :D :D :D

Trust me i can sympathise with your daughter, i am supposed to be revising for my 2nd year psychology degree exams which start on thursday. But this site is just too addictive. She will probably learn the hard way, or be panicked into last minute revision. I never worry so much about passing until after the exam, i worry more about getting into an exam and not being able to write anything! (Which is looking highly likely - unless i have an essay question on how to get a reliable recall or teaching your dog to heel!!! I wish! )

i was the same, when i did my degree i nearly ran away from one of the exams cos had a mega hangover from the night before.justdon't like being undermined by the grandparents.ive said yeah to her doing what she wants now anyway.anything for an easy life.good news is milo came back first time he was called tonight, as i had a bag of treats in my hand, still it's progress, at least someone is doing as he's told:)

Ohh lucyandmeg my eldest is SUPPOSED to be doing the same for her 2nd yr Pschology exam thursday morning, part of her combined studies degree at least it's only a 2hr one lol. I'm still trying to work out why she's doing Psch and Computers lol, made her go back to Derby today to revise away from the boyfriend and our dogs.

I never could do any revision for my exams. i always crammed. I've got an excellant short term memory but it wont stay in for more than a couple of days so there was no point starting earlier than that.

Perhaps leave her to it for her GCSE's and then you'll know how much you need to push for the A'Levels

yeah thanks everyone, i have come down from the ceiling now, i was mad for tons of other reasons.she will be back tomorrow with her nose to the grindstone, and i'm sure she will be ok, she is very clever just a hard work teenager.can't think who she takes after:)
