Hi people first of many posts no doubt :)
I have a 12 week old lhasa had her for 3 weeks, she does the majority of wee's outside and all of her poo's outside however she occaissionally wee's in the house normally on the hall carpet or bedroom carpet but never in the kitchen(this is where she sleeps) how do i stamp this out??..also should i punish her??..at the moment i rub her nose in it and put her on the newspaper(which she does also use sometimes!!
Thanks

Hi Roxi,
Stop rubbing her nose in it!! What does that teach her - that when you come in you fill her nose full of sh*t. That's an excellent way to get her to start eating it to hide it from you and you have another problem.
When you find a mess, just clean it up, and step up the number of times you take her outside to perform, and don't leave her in a situation where she is able to mess in the wrong place - if you can't be with her, put her in her crate/pen.
Hope this helps.

Hi Roxi,
Please don't rub your puppy's nose in her wee - or poo. This is a very old fashioned method of housetraining which does not work.
Puppies learn to go outside because of habit, not because they are punished for going inside. Every time they go - it's outside. Eventually they associate going with being outside and will wait until they are outside to go. (I never paper train, by the way, I think it prolongs housetraining.) There is absolutely no need to punish your puppy in any way for going inside. It means you are not taking her out often enough, at the right times, or do not yet understand her "signals" that she needs to go. She is probably just at the age where she can begin to control weeing - do not expect perfection at 12 weeks of age. This means you have to go outside with her a lot - immediately after eating, immediately after waking, immediately after (or even during) play ... It also means you have to watch your puppy at all times. If you cannot watch her then she should be in her crate or otherwise confined. If you miss and you catch her squatting to wee, interrupt her immediately and let her finish outside. Always praise her or give her a small reward (perhaps a piece of her food) when she goes outside.

Thanks stacy I am taking her out at the times you state above i was just wondering if there was anything else i could do or anything i should stop doing.
thanks again :)

Hi Roxi,
I'm glad you're not punishing her after the event! When you catch her in the act, shout "NO!" very loudly, then whisk her into the garden, and give her your 'special word' which she has learnt means she can wee. Then in your very happiest voice you can give her
lots of praise when she's finished.
Then it's back indoors to mop up. Don't tell her off for the puddle indoors - it's ancient history and she will have forgotten about it.
She's still very young yet - she'll get there in time.
