When on holiday in Catalonia last year we saw a magnificent dog that we both admired. On asking the breed we were told it was a french mastiff. We would be interested in aquiring one - as a pet only and obviously as a puppy so that we acn train it ourselves. We are dog lovers and have owned dogs all our lives; as members of our family not as show animals. We would be grtaeful if we could have some information about the breed and its availability in Britain e.g. are there any breeders in Scotland? Would it be better to seek a puppy from the continent as the gene pool may be more limited wihtin the United kingdom?

Dear guest,
I am not sure if you are aware but this breed is also called a Dogue de Bordeaux. If you go to champdogs home page and do a guided search on all breeds you will be able to find some information on bredders etc. For more information in the breed go to google.co.uk and tyoe in dogue de bordeaux, there is a list of sites that contain information such as history of the breed etc. I am sure that someone else who owns a dogue will be able to give you more information (as I only own a dogue cross) but this is how I found out a it more about the breed before buying my puppy.
Hope this helps
