hi i read up in the book's of dgs..and computer..have a shiba inu 6 years old..was going to get a female..pom...but when i read up..and asked breeder whom i got the male pom from..she advised..ifi had a female pom,,the male (even tho he's been done....would try mate..and it could damage the lil femail pom..as in he beeing a larger dog..of same breed..(so i read up) and breeders advise was to go for male pom..which i have:) loverly little thing..
but when we got home..our shiba inu..was wagging his tail.. but we dont know weither that was..happy? or thought it was food..so with them just meeting so to speak...we though just inqiative.. but the sheba..wont leeve the pom alone..incase of the sheeba hurting the lil one..we decided to put lil one in good size cage..hopeing that they get used to 1 an other?....when i read up on these dogs..the sheeba and the pom..ar in a way..the same bread..and ..both said(in books and on computer )that they both will get on with other dogs? ie (other dogs tolorate.......( high)..so we tool breeders advise on this..
so doese any one know..if eventualy (once the bigger dog gets used to the male pom)
they will become freinds?..fist night with pom (sheeba was 6 when we got him from dog rescue..and is fine when on beach..and playes with other dogs? will he get used to the lil pom who is a pup 3 months old? please tell me they will be ok.dont want to part with pup pom :(..pom in cage to keep him safe? till bigger dog gets used to him?
but i let pom out i a sep room for time beeing...?can anyone advise please..on how they can become freinds and get on togehter? which best way to do it?

My understanding of Shiba Inus is that the males can be a bit funny with other males so would be best to get a female. Yes any male dog will try to mate any female dog if given the chance. Can you not get the male castrated to start with then have your bitch done when she is old enough?
I think it may actually be best to talk to a longterm Shiba Inu breeder about what is safe with a male Shiba first before considering another dog.

I don't know anything specific about these breeds, so I can only talk generally. The best way to introduce a new pup to an established older dog is not to force the issue, and don't give the older dog any reason to be jealous of the new puppy. It's a very unusual dog that will actually harm a pup, but they will certainly 'put it in its place'. Usually there will be a lot of sniffing and licking, then they will start playing.

Feed the two dogs at the same time - the older dog will be thrilled at having more meals (only give the older one a tiny amount out of his usual daily ration at the 'extra' mealtimes so that he doesn't get fat!) Have them out in the garden together, and make sure the older one can get awayfrom this new 'monster' if he wants to. Give the older one the same amount of individual attention that he used to get, and with luck there'll be no problems with jealousy.

Some older dogs are afraid of puppies, and some will react to the intrusion by pretending the pup isn't there, and may completely ignore it for several weeks.

I feel they won't become friends until they have more time together, supervised by you of course!
Good luck.
:)
