I HAVE JUST BEEN READING THE POST ON BREEDING, I MYSELF AM A FIRST TIME BREEDER AND YES I DID USE THIS FORUM WHEN MY BITCH WENT INTO LABOUR, I MUST SAY I DID GET LOTS HELP FROM IT BUT I HAVE SEEN IN THE PAST PEOPLE GETTING SLAUGHTERED ALSO, I AM NOT SAYING I AGREE WITH ANYONE BREEDING FOR THE SAKE OF IT I DON`T, I MADE SURE I LOOKED INTO A SUITABLE STUD DOG THAT WOULD COMPLEMENT MY BITCH, ALSO HEALTH CHECKS, SHE WENT ON TO HAVE 11 PUPS ALL FIT AND WELL AND 5 WEEKS OLD SO I MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT. WE ALL HAVE TO START AT THE BEGINNING TO GET THE EXPERIANCE, I DO AND I AM SURE YOU WILL AGREE. DISAGREE WITH THESE SO CALLED LICENCED KENNELS THAT ADVERTISE FOR SALE ALL THESE DIFFERENT BREEDS FROM THE SAME PLACE, ALL THEY ARE, ARE PUPPY FARMS THAT BREED THERE BITCHES EVERY SEASON TO MAKE MONEY, NOT TO IMPROVE THE BREED. AND I MUST ADMIT THAT WHILE I HAVE ADVERTISED MY PUPS I HAD A PHONE CALL FROM A WOMAN ABOUT A BITCH, NOT ASKING ANYTHING ABOUT HER BREEDING, HEALTH, OR TEMPREMENT BUT ASKING IF THERE WERE ANY ENDORSEMENTS, NEEDLESS TO SAY SHE IS NOT HAVING ANY OF THE PUPS. I HAVE ALSO RANG PEOPLE RECENTLY TO SEE WHAT SORT OF LAB`S ARE FOR SALE AND HAVE FOUND THAT THE PEOPLE ADVERTISING THESE PUPS KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE PEDIGREES OF THERE DOGS. 1 EXAMPLE I ASKED IF THE PUPS WERE WORKING OR SHOW? HER REPLY NO THEY ARE JUST FAMILY PETS, NOW IF I WERE BUYING THAT WOULD SOUND ALARM BELLS. AND I FOUND THAT WITH A FEW THAT WERE SELLING PUPS. IT IS DOWN TO THE BUYERS NOT TO BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE. I WOULD`NT WANT TO BE CLASSED AS IRRISPONSIBLE I KNOW I AM NOT, AND I KNOW THERE ARE MANY MORE LIKE ME, BUT HOW DO YOU STOP THE IRRISPONSIBLE ONES? I THINK I SOUND LIKE A HYPACRITE NOW. ALL I CAN SAY IN MY DEFENCE IS MADE SURE I DID EVERTHING RIGHT INCLUDING ALL THE VET BILLS,

The only answer is- you cannot and will not stop irresponsible breeders :(

I wish there was an easy answer to stop irresponsible breeding but unfortunately there isn't.

Whilst there is a market out there for the pups they will continue to breed.

I was at a Game Fair today, and one couple saw my bitch and out of the blue asked if she was for sale!!! I played along and said no she isn't but she will be having a litter next year, maybe you would be interested in one of those. ' Oh No was the reply we want an older bitch about a year old. Why I asked. Because we would like to breed from her!!!!!!!!!!

Can you imagine my reply to that.

Hi,

It is very annoying when people are out to make money from breeding without any thought for their dogs or the breed (or breeds) they have.

If only there were more thorough checks over here, like they have in other countries, but I guess someone would still get round it somehow. As someone else said, all the time there are people out there silly or unkowledgable enough to buy a dog from one of these breeders, they will continue.

I know someone who fairly recently bought a bitch puppy, Weimeraner X white GSD....not the best of crosses in the first place, but this bitch is black!!!!! Now tell me where a dilute colour and a white make black and this bitch also looks very slimline and I am sure there is greyhound in there somewhere. She came from a puppy farm!!!

When will people learn??????

Some white GSDs carry the black gene - white in Shepherds is a 'masking colour' - you can have a white GSD that will throw black and tan pups or all-black pups when bred to a coloured dog, but will throw _mostly_ white pups when bred to another white dog. I've seen a litter recently whose parents were both all-white... and five of the ten pups were black and tan.

White in GSDs does not equal albino - and it's not necessarily completely recessive either. Now, if you had a dilute colour GSD (Liver or Blue) as a parent and a Weim ... then I _would_ wonder how you could get a black pup...

The cross sounds like it could be a lovely looking dog *grins* Not that I'd go out and get one myself, our GSD is a handful in her own right.
