Have just got Maverick, my young Dobe bitch's hip score back - a little higher than I had hoped for at LH3/RH3

I got Bear's back the other week and I was really pleased with his 2:6 ! The breed average is 19 and personally I think that is artificially low. Only a handful of dogs have been scored in the UK. I'm sure that there are many breeds that would be extremely grateful to have a 3:3 score :-)

What is the average in Dobes?

Hi Leigh,

The average is 10 (this is over 822 dogs).
Her dam was 0:1 and sire 0:4
so I was hoping that she would be within their range.

Means I can start some agility with her now - wanted to get her hips checked first

Think your bitches score is good. I would rather have a 3/3 than say 1/5 at least she is even, and a score of 3 per hip is very good if the adverage is 10. JH

Or a 2:6 then :-) I know it isn't *even* but I would still rather have that score than most of higher *even* scores I have seen in my breed ;-) Leigh

The thing is that when you have scores as low as these you get into the realms of the "eye of the beholder" A 3/3 could just as easily be a 2/2 or a 4/4 There is so little wrong!! Anything less than double figures, provided it is not all one feature is insignificant. Congratulations on a very good score Christine!

leigh, what breed do you have, im imagining allsorts now that youve said the average score is highish, the dobes score of 3-3 is excellent, ive had a rott with 1-0 and a 5-4. and a 4-4. i was well happy with all of these

Diz, the breed I refered to was the Bracco Italiano.I will look up how many have been tested but it is around 20 dogs I think. Scores have come back between 6 and 67.I haven't got the paperwork to hand. I also have GSP's :-) I agree, I would be very happy with Mav's score or yours come to that! Leigh

he's gorgeous, do you work him ,have you shown him at all, he seems really switched on in his photo, infact positivley wide awake, whats he like as a dog ,

Thank you Diz :-) He's a great dog to have around and you are right, he is switched on!He doesn't miss a trick and is very nosey.....lol. He will be worked and hopefully trialed too. Bear's a very natural hunter so that makes my job easier, but he is a typical bracco and retrieves *if he feels like it*. I have only showed him once, in Belgium, and he went BP under a respected Italian judge. He also picked up a couple of best conformation prizes at GWT's over the summer. I hope to get him in the ring here (and Europe) this coming year, although Import Reg. here doesn't exactly have the same appeal as breed classes
