Well, on Thursday we are off to Lanzarote! Two weeks of nothing to do but look after the kids, and try a little of the local beverage
Just wondered if anyone has been and could give us an idea how hot it will be at this time of year.
Many thanks, Hayley

Hi there,
I was there about 3 years ago in April and it was lovely, it is a Canaria Island so you tend to find it hot most of the time. Lanzarote is one if the isles which gets the winds which can make you think it is cooler than it is so be careful with the kids but I probably don't need to say that.
I also thought there was a lot of mosquitoes compared to some of the others so plenty bug cream.
I got one of my Bo-bs burned quite bad and was sure I was not in direct sun but I was it just felt cooler.
Had a good holiday though and would go back, different from the other Canaria Islands.
havH fun.

Hi -We went about 4 yrs ago -Playa blanca -one of the quieter parts -some are very busy ( depends what you want ) Try and find the tapas bars for the best food and if you hire a car try the national reserve beaches ( can't remember the name ) some are nudist but not every one does ( if that makes sense ) but take plenty of water etc with you -there were no bars on those beaches
We went in November and it was hot then -I'd go back :)
have a good time :D
Liz :)
Edited - just read Pams post and yes the wind is decieving so slap on the cream ooooh and there is a sunday market in the village of Teguise in the hills good for bartering -but be carefull - I got a lovely gold chain -It was green before we got home lol :D
Thanks Liz and Pam
Glad to hear it should be warm, I've got loads of P20 (all day sun cream) and I will give the kids extra top ups with the normal stuff.
We are going to Playa Blanca, in a hotel right on the beach so probably won't venture too far too often, we just want to relax as much as is possible with two little ones.
Thanks for the info

ooh have a good time then - My recomendation is a restaurant called ''Typically Spanish '' on the main road into town -Brilliant food and lovely people ( just a crappy name ) and a playground opposite -brilliant for that extra after dinner drink :D
Liz :)
Thanks Liz, we'll give it a try, is the playground on the same side of the road so they can play while we eat (and drink! :))?

It'll be awful Hayley :(
Stinking hot, sweaty, dirty, smelly and full of mosquitos and other unmentionable creepy crawlies. I think you'd be much better off staying over here.
Since you bought the tickets though .... I could always go in your place :)

we went to playa blanca last year its beautiful if a bit small.....we found after the first week that we had seen and done everything twice! local buses are very cheap and only takes about 15/20 mins to get into the main resort, lots of funfairs and the like for bored kids :) souveneirs seemed more reasonably priced there to......and yes the market is nice but a word ov warning if u go watch the kids as we found the traders wud call ours over in the hope of a sale and they are very ahem pursuasive!
the canaries are lovely .......ooooo u lucky thing im sooo jelous!
Thanks Lara, you are sooo kind, but I think we'll cope, although after the first week when we are boiling hot, kids are grouchy and I'm missing the dogs I may wish I had taken you up on the offer!!! :D

hi
hope you enjoy lanzarote, it's lovely and be sure to visit the cactus garden, it is spectacular.watch out for the looney drivers and cockroaches though, there's tons of both!:)
Hi Miloos, as long as they keep out of our apartment! (The cockroaches, not the looney drivers, they will be very welcome after a couple of glasses of the hard stuff! :))
Whereabouts is the cactus garden? And someone else suggested visiting the main town for the funfairs - is that Arrecife? (you can tell I've not done my homework!!!)
Thanks all

not sure where the funfair is but the cactus garden is just up from costa teguise its really beautiful, tons of giant cactuses in a disused quarry with a windmill overlooking it, its surreal. Also you have to do the camel ride up the volcano, thats really .....hilarious.when we went a year ago car hire was quite cheap too!!have a good un:)
