Can anyone tell me what is the correct weight for a ten month old Shetland Sheepdog? I know you go by the 'feel' of them but an estimated weight would be handy as well.
My dog Benjy is a medium size Sheltie and varies between 23 and 241b (sorry I haven't gone metric!). I feel this is a little on the heavy side? He's only fed one pack of Naturediet daily plus some yogurt and a raw carrot.
He gets three walks a day and also runs around the garden so I really don't know what else to do to reduce his weight if I need to.
It's no use asking my Vet what weight he should be as he said my last Sheltie should be about 12lb! I have a cat who's heavier than that! Admittedly he was smaller than Benjy but not that small!
I'd be grateful for advice as I know that weight management is really important to prevent health problems.
As far as I know there isn't a weight scale for Shelties - I think adult males should be about 14 and-a-half inches tall, so weight to fit, as it were. (I don't do metric, either!)
