Hi Everyone,
It is our first Champ show tomorrow, and we are getting both excited and nervous now. Can anyone else remember their 'first show' and have you any advice to give us. We have our bag packed - thanks to a previous post listing the essentials, and we have our bait, we also have our 'Rescue Remedy'!! which I am sure I will need.
If anyone else is showing a Bath tomorrow, best wishes and Good Luck!!

I was nervous at my first show, I think everyone gets nervous at their first one. I felt all shaky, although I wasn't actually shaking if you know what I mean, & had butterflies in my tummy. But when I got in the ring I was fine. The trouble is if you get too nervous, it travels down the lead to the dog so neither of you do well. Just try to relax & remember that it is just a fun day out with your dog. We'll be there tomorrow aswell. What breed is your dog?

Hi Freeway,
He is a Dalmatian, and already goes through stages of 'shaking his spots off' when he gets nervous about something, so you are right, I must try to stay calm and 'happy' for him.

I think what is making it worse is that a) his breeder will be there (if he was one I had bred, things would be more relaxed) and b) his litter brother will obviously be in the same class and his owner is a really experienced handler.

How did it go, Dotty? Did you both enjoy yourselves?
:)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 25.05.03 14:37 UTC
Good luck, Dotty!
I have dalmatians, too, so let us know how you get on. Remember - it's only a game, so relax as much as you can, and try to have fun!
Fingers crossed for you.
:)

Good Luck Dotty, I too have a Dalmatian, what breeding is yours? At least if a Dalmatian shows you up, all other Dalmatian exhibitors will laugh with you, not at you, I am sure they have all been there!!

Let us know how you do.

What breeding is yours, Sandra? I'm always happy to make friends with other dal owners - do you mind if I email you? (I always like to ask first.)
- By sandrah Date 25.05.03 19:05 UTC
JG, No, of course I don't mind you e.mailing me. Mine is a 'Hightoby'. I used to show him until his hormones became to much to handle!! Are yours homebred? Forgot...my home e.mail is sanmilo1@aol.com, other one is work.

Hi Dotty!
I remember feeling very nervous at my first show. I was all fingers and thumbs but the practise at ringcraft paid off and my puppy actually beat the one the breeder had kept!!! I'm sure you will be fine, try to relax and enjoy it. Good luck.

Hope you did well today, we've just got back. We got our 2nd CC and BoB with Dakota but I couldn't stay for the group, glad I didn't now I'm red raw even with sun block and long sleeves on ----- someone told me it's always cold and wet at Bath.

Result! Well done. Roll on the third!

Thanks everyone his breeder was in tears yesterday, everytime we win she crys she wants to tell her late husband but of course she can't, it was 7mths and 1 day since his death yesterday so gets really upset and very happy too lol.

I am entered at Blackpool but not sure if I can get there fingers crossed if not it will be South Wales. Does it matter if they've given you the wrong CC card? I got home yesterday and went to fill the card in (judge just signed it) and saw that I'd got the Bitch ticket not the dog, am sure it won't be a problem with the Kennel Club lol.
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 27.05.03 13:30 UTC
Shouldn't be a problem for you with the KC, expect it will be a problem for the judge though - believe it is against KC regs to give out CC cards until they are completed, and only judge is allowed to complete it - never mind giving the wrong one!

M.

Edit to add: Well done :D !!

Oh dear that's a shame as it was her first time awarding CC's suppose nerves got the better of her.
- By Sarah Date 27.05.03 21:27 UTC
I got a wrong one here too :-) It's not so bad with CC's as you get the official one from the KC, I think I also have a 'wrong' RCC too :-)

Hi Sandra,
I emailed your work one.....will email your home one soon!
:)

Well done Schip!
Unfortunately, if it's not cold and wet at Bath- which it usually is- it's scorching!!
Hope the 3rd CC isn't far away.

mandy-----remember my cock up------i got sent from the kennel club my challange certificate, and behind it i had the cc for the schipps, belonging to mary deats
- By Schip Date 28.05.03 09:08 UTC
ohhh yeahh I remember that. I had to ring the KC after the national because as I was listed as the owner of his son but I was only his handler and of course his res CC has my name on it and the write up has my name too - I have been assured that his Stud book number will go to his owner and will be listed in her name not mine.

I've had a phone call from a fellow breeder wanting to know which show's I'm going to for the rest of the season - seems she's going to bring the bubbly along with her .................... Just in case lol
- By Dotty [gb] Date 28.05.03 12:52 UTC
Thanks everyone for your replys. Unfortunately, he decided to be a total wimp on the day with his tail so far between his legs I am sure it was touching his chin!! LOL
Never mind though, it was his first show and he is only just 6 months old. He relaxed loads after the classes and played with his litter mate and the other Dals like he had all the confidence in the world.
We are at Southern Counties on Friday so hope he will put his brave face on. The funny thing is that I didn't feel nervous at all - a little humilitated by the end but then thats why we have Dals I suppose - to get used to being completely humiliated on a regular basis!! lol
