Can anyone shed any light on this one - can someone get away with registering a litter of crossbreeds as pure with no back lash when the fact is discovered because the puppy dosn't grow to resemble the pedigree registered dam? Or does the breeder of the litter happily get away with ripping off people and sending fraudulant papers to the K.C?

Cant they be DNA tested ?
What wouldthe results be if the litter registration were found to have been falsified??

If the accusation was true then you could file a complaint with the KC. Dogs don't have to look like their dam for evidence of pedigree. I guess if the person who bought a puppy could prove the dog isn't as supposed to be you could claim your money back plus expenses through a small claims action.

You would need to prove it though. You would need to be very careful with accusations.

On first sighting you can see that it is not what it is ment to be quite easily. I was shocked when the K.C papers were produced and feel sorry for the people who have been taken for a ride. They love the dog and wouldn't change the youngster, but it's not on when they paid good money for a pure bred K.C registered pup and as it gets bigger they suddenly realise all is not well.

Hi Polar, first question should be, have they contacted the breeder to see if a genuine mistake had been made - are they aware of how this pup looks, could the bitch have been accidentally mated by a dog of another (or cross) breed as well as by the supposed sire? I think it essential to get the breeders response first, if they take one look at the pup and agree, they have a lot of options open to them, and they might want to fix this problem - contacting the rest of the puppy buyers, the KC, DNA tests etc (and, of course, refunds to the buryers). It is possible for a bitch to conceived to 2 seperate dogs, and if this is the case the KC reg. for the pups tested to be bred as registered can stand, while the other (s) will have to be de-registered (if that is the term).

Of course, if this is not the case, and the breeder denies all interest/responsibility then blood/DNA tests wil have to be requested by the pups owner, and the KC complaints/small claims court route followed.
bye
