Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Snappy behaviour during season
- By Daisy [gb] Date 24.05.03 16:49 UTC
Is it common behaviour for a bitch to get a bit snappy during her season ? Our Aussie, Tara, is on about day 7 or 8 and has started having the odd snap at us and our older dog - also had a little snap at daughter's boyfriend. She has never snappped at us before and has only had the odd snap at our neutered male before now.

Thanks

Daisy

Yes, I'm afraid many bitches get a bit tetchy during their season - I suppose it's like PMT! Poor girl, she must be feeling under the weather. If she gets worse a chat to your vet may be in order in case she has another problem unrelated to her being in season.
Hope this helps.

Thanks - :) She seems well enough apart from this - she is pretty clean thankfully and apart from carrying her toy gorilla around (birthday present from daughter :) ), she has no other signs that she is in season. Hopefully, all will return to normal in a couple of weeks - is this correct ?

Yes, seasons last on average 3 weeks from start to finish, with the most fertile period usuallybetween days 10 and 15. But because most bitches can't read the books, there are always exceptions!
