Topic Dog Boards / Health / My staffie has lymphoma
- By Donnax [gb] Date 15.05.03 18:03 UTC
My 9 year old staffie, Charlie has lymphoma. To say im gutted and heartbroken is an understatement. At the moment, he's surviving. I wonder how long his concoction of chemo tablets and steroids will work for. The vet suggests between 2 and 4 months. Im already 3 and a half weeks into that.
I know i might have to be brave and let charlie be pts ....

I don't quite know what to say other than I am very sorry to hear of Charlies illness.
I lost my 7 year old Stafford bitch Gyp last year and know it's no age to loose a much loved friend.

Thinking of you Karen and family.

Hi everyone,
Charlies been on his medication now for around 3 weeks. Ive been to the vets on countless occasions with charlie. Ive just come back and im kind of happier. The vet tells me at the moment his lymph nodes arent 'up'. I know this can change in no time at all.
But i guess someones looking down on us and smiling. wether i get an extra day or an extra month with him, im thankfull.
Thank you all, your kind words i will treasure them when the time comes!
Love Donna and Charlie xx

I was awoken last night by charlie shaking.... this got worse. His breathing was also very deep but fast, somehow struggling to breathe. He was then sick twice.
I rushed him to the vet, and they told me that he had a high temp plus dehydrated. So my boys at the vets and im here worrying myself sick.
yes, i know hes in the right place, but everyday is precious.

I returned home to hear murphy howling the house down, guess he misses his chum already.

Donna

Keep your chin up. I know it must be hard but Charlie is in the best place and what ever happens now it will be for the best. Take care and give Murphy lots of hugs as I am sure he needs them and it will make you feel a little better, if possible.

Take care

Lucy

Sorry to hear about Charlie, I had two Blue Roan Cockers Spaniel Bitches. Parlsey died four years ago from Stomach Cancer. I still have Holly whos is now nearly 15, she was diagnosed with Skin Cancer in February and put on Steriods to help with the itching. She has now been diagnoised with both Liver and kidney and disease, but despite all that she won't give up on life. Each day she has a bad turn my husband and I prepare ourselves for the worse, but each morning she's up again (on extremely wobbly legs) She eats a little, and we do get the occasional wag of the tail. It's so very hard to let them go, but I know when the time is right I will have to say goodbye. At least I've got their memory, and hundreds of photo's.

I wish you and Charlie well.

Dear Jan,
My god, im so sorry to hear about hollie. You must be devestated. Im so, so sorry. Its always heartbreaking when your much loved animal is ill. I hope Hollie brings you many smiles and happy days. I know what your saying about photo's ... we have loads. I also have many on discs. I can now think of pep who was pts many years back with smiles and remember the funny moments. I bet you can with parsley.
Good luck jan
Charlie, is home with more tablets! Anti-biotics this time.
So we pulled through another trauma...
Thanks

Donna - just to let you know that Holly died on Sunday. She hadn't eaten in four days, and was starting to be sick after drinking water. She was looking worse each day and by Sunday looked pitiful and in pain. I know the vet said it's the kindest thing to do to let her go but it sure doesn't feel like that now. She is buried in the back garden, next to her sister so as least I know they are together again.

I wish charlie and healthy and happy life.
