Topic Dog Boards / General / picking up pup on saturday
- By mel78 [gb] Date 22.05.03 21:31 UTC
we collect our 9 week old kerry blue on saturday and can't wait.
we got our previous dog at 5 months old so didnt have the fluff ball stage with him,and he never really seemed like a puppy,he has always looked like an old man (mini- schnauzer)
any advice on the best way to bring him home? it is a 4 hour drive, zak will be in the boot so hubby will be free to have pup on his knee,we have some of those absorbant pads for potty training,to put on his lap, should we stop to let him relieve himself at intervals,or just crack on and get home?
any help appreciated
mel ;)

sorry to dissapoint alison,
we stepped off the plane to 28 degree's,we had glorious sun all fortnight reaching 30 most days.the only down side was the airport at corfu it is a hassle to say the least,1 and 1/2 hours to get our bags off the carousel, and no display boards on the way back.
all in all it was great tho.
thanks

Hi Mel
I knew it was hot cos my mum was there the first week, you lucky sod!!:D That airport is a nightmare, the last time I went one of my cases and a holdall went missing I got it back five days before we were due to come home, luckily I had packed half of each of our things in seperate cases.

Glad you had a good time :)

Hi, I had a 4 hour journey when I picked up my mini schnauzer. I took it in turn to drive with my husband whilst Oscar sat on the passenger's lap. I made sure that we were well covered with a towel in case of accidents. (There weren't any). We did stop once to give him some water but he wasn't bothered. Just slept the whole way without a murmour. I bet you are really excited - good luck.

Hi
we had a 2 and half hour drive when we picked up Gus ( and there was a delay on the way back too) .
We brought him home in a little cat box with towels etc . Brought water etc with us , newspapers etc . He was fine except for being sick after about 20 mins which our breeder had told us may happn anyway . After that , he slept all the way .
Good luck
Its brlliant picking them up and brnging them home isnt it :D
Hope all goes well on the day :)

well, boscoe is home and did very well travelling.
we had no accidents in the car,but he has wee'd twice and done a poo on the carpet. but he has been out side once as well so hopefully the start of things to come.we are hoping zak will show him what to do.
zak seems a little put out by boscoe even tho he is getting more attention than boscoe.
pup doesnt even seem all that bothered that he has changed environment.
anyway hopefully we will get a decent nights sleep, but i doubt it

wasnt too bad,
boscoe would not go in the crate we bought,he screamed as soon as you touched the door.i only wanted him in to stop him peeing on the floor or on zak.instead they must have cuddled up at some point and we had 3 pee's and 2 poo's as early morning presents.
i have praised him when he tiddles even a tiny bit outside,he doesnt seem to know what he is being praised for but enjoys it anyway.
he has still got his appetite and also tries to steal zak's.
we are having to go out for an hour without them today so hopefully the house wont be too bad when we get back.

Hi Mel
Hope you are enjoying the new pup, how are things going? We collect our Bichon in just over 3 weeks, cant wait, it feels like forever. I plan to get a puppy crate, never used one with our last pup but they sound like a great idea, hope yours gets used to it.

hi pauline,
things are good, more toilet bits inside than out but as long as the weather stays fair we should get there.boscoe has decided that he will not use the crate at all, instead he will shove zak out of the basket by getting there first.(think we will have to get a bigger basket)the crate was only to aid night time toilet trouble,we have laminate in the kitchen where the dogs sleep so at least it is easy to clean up.we also bought a powder that is like the stuff inside a nappy, for accidents on a carpet, you dab the pee then sprinkle this powder on,and in about 10 minutes it has turned to a type of gel and absorbed alot of the fluid.it was £2.99 and is called "lift off",it has been a god send what with 3 children and 2 dogs it helps to have the floor dry.
have you picked a name for your bischon yet?
do you have any other pets?
later mel :)

Hi Mel
I will definetly get some of the 'lift off' sounds good, is it a pet shop item? Think we may call our pup Molly, going to see her again saturday morning, I feel like a child I cant wait. I bet your children love the pup, loads of fun & so cute. I thought I would get the crate for nights also so Molly has her own retreat if she wants it, our house get quite busy at times & I am sure she will want peace & quiet & to be left alone so I thought if she goes in her 'den' we all know she wants to be left alone, well thats the plan goodness knows if it will happen like that. Happy toilet training, just think yours will be over & I will be just starting.
Regards Pauline.
