Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Stud dog problems?

Will a stud breed a bitch that he previously bred? I have a bitch that was bred on Sun and now the male is not really interested in breeding her again. They had a few slip ties and 1 full tie for 10 minutes. I have taken her to him several times since and he chatters and licks but does nothing after that. She was progesterone tested to confirm the best time to mate. She is still VERY receptive, flagging and doing some flirting but he does not proceed. I am hoping now that the one mating is enough.

An experienced dog will know that the bitch has probably passed the optimum time. They know a lot more than we mere humans do :-)

Some bitches are real tarts and will continue to flirt for a number of days after they have ovulated. Having had a 10 minute tie then I would be satisfied with that.

If you have had one tie I wouldnt worry the dog knows best our dog will only mate a bitch when she is at her prime time it can be worring but you have to trust his judgement!

My girl had one 20 minute tie on day 12 and went on to produce 7 healthy pups
