make sure you check your house insurance policy because a lot of insurance companies see dog flaps as invalidating cover for theft/burglary

I believe most insurance companies will accept a dogflap provided the room that is accessed by the flap is secured from the rest of the house by external door/s and locks.

But as you say, definitely check with yours to make sure this is the case.
