I'm amazed. :( I just read the details of a GSD missing in my local area (about 8 miles away). It went missing 3 days ago, and the local vet practices hadn't heard about it when I called them just now. Surely this isn't the best way to go about getting your dog back?

Addition: Even the Vet Surgery in one of villages given as a location hadn't been informed!!

We are finding that the most successfull method of getting back dogs seems to be to absolutely saturate the area with posters. Put them in vets, pet shops, garages, newsagents (people visit these daily), outside schools, pubs, in areas people walk their dogs etc etc.

That was why I was so surprised, Christine. There is a motorway 4 miles from where this GSD went missing. If (God forbid) he's injured by traffic, the obvious place to take him would be the vet - so why not tell all the vets in the locality that he's missing?

Three days he's been missing now. Three days-worth of publicity wasted.

Just out of interest Christine what sort of success rate of getting dogs back do you get ? I suppose it all depends on whether they have been stolen or have run away ?

I don't know - we always used to follow up the listings and ask people whether they had recovered their dogs but do many did not bother to respond that we no longer do this. Many don't let us know when they recover them either. Those that are kind enough to let us know I note on the list as FOUND

I always wonder what happens to them as lots of the posts are just about the dogs missing and have no follow up .
It makes me really sad as there are lots on there :(
