Hi, my 5 month old mini schnauzer's new teeth are starting to come through at the top front and his little baby teeth are still there. The new teeth are behind the baby ones and one or two of them (baby teeth) are quite loose. Will the new ones push out the old ones, will the baby ones drop out on their own or do I need to take him to the vet?? :( :(

They can cause problems if the new ones come through with the baby ones still in place .
Probably someone with more experience can advise on what course of action other than keep your eye on them

I'm far from being an expert. But I just had to have some of my Yorkies baby teeth pulled for the same reason. The vet said it would cause her alot of problems unless I got them pulled. So I hope this info helps. Shirl :D
I have just checked again and all of the small baby teeth at the front are quite loose now.

Hi,
This happened to my pup - his new canines came through while his old canines were still there - and not a wobble in sight!
I phoned my breeder and she said it was quite common and to give a few more weeks. They all fell out eventually - have you given him a nice big bone to gnaw on - that helped Mungo's teeth to fall out :)

Do as much as you can to get the 'baby' canines out - tuggy games, bones to gnaw etc. But be aware the pup may need surgery to remove them - my dog did, as they were still in at 6 months and beginning to spoil his 'bite'.
Thanks for the advice, I will give it more time and continue playing tug with old socks. Hopefully they will drop out in a few more days. :)

When my dog was a pup and hanging on to front baby teeth I gave him a meaty, gristly bone every day, he had to use his front teeth to get at the meat and it worked like a charm. :)
Hi, just a quick update, teeth falling out everywhere, in my hand, on the carpet - he even let me pull one out that was hanging on by a thread. Not many left now due to the tugging games. Thanks for the help - I am so relieved that it looks like we don't need the vets help. :)

Hi, Poppy (5 mth mini s.) also had this problem a few weeks ago, but like Oscar the baby teeth were loose. She has now lost of of the baby set and has a complete and beautiful new set at the front top and bottom.
Karen.
