This might sound silly but has anyone noticed teats deepen and enlarge at 27/29 days? Playing with my little girl tonight there is a big difference, is this a sign that she is in pup or a sign of a phantom?
I have a scan booked for next week, but the change in her today was so much it shocked me.

It could be either, but if you haven't noticed this after previous seasons, it is a good sign pointing to hopefully her being in whelp. they get almost blotchy with pigment too!

only noticed it to night, very pointy and dark, hard when you stroke her tum.

Had a scan today 30/32 days and 4 pups seen, so after missing last time good result this. thought she was different.

Yipee! Now keep up her usual excersise, but no silly stuff. don't give any extra food until the start of week six, but put her on a puppy version at 5 weeks, gradually increasing the amount fed from maintenece amount to half as much again by end of pregnancy. You may want to split the food up into two then 3 meals.

is puppy food better than a bitch food? The vet said not to give extra calcium till 7/8 weeks.
Can you tell this is my first.

My vet told me to feed a good puppy food from week 6 onwards and NEVER to give calcium until after whelping

Never give Calcium until after whelping, and then only if the bitch shows signs of needing it. (Her mother only had Calcium supplementation as she had enteritis in late pregnancy and had no Calcium reserves when they were born, and was showing signs of Eclampsia). An Elkhund bitch if eating a good quality food, and eating well should not need it at all.

I would get her on something like Arden Grange Prestige. Join the breeders scheme, and it is much cheaper, and they deliver.

Thanks for the help, no doubt more will be needed.
Will put her on puppy food from next week, she always eats well so will not give her extra calcium.
