Hmmm, second attempt to post as lost it the first time :(

There has been a post recently about dogs being late or never cocking their legs when they pee. Well my pup stunned me a couple of days ago by doing exactly this. He's only done it the once, and he had perfect balance (I had to look twice to make sure I was seeing right :D ) He was a day short of being 12 weeks old Is this a record? I spoke to his breeder (not specifically about this :) ). She said that he must get it from his Dad as her lines are usually quite late to do it - often 18 months to two years before they start.

Plenty, and I have a very expert one that does it almost like a male at times. At other times it starts as a cock and goes into a squat half way through. she started this after her first litter 3 years ago.

I've got one that does too, she has always been the dominant bitch in the pack and will actually mark behind the other bitches and dogs!!!

So I do think it is a dominance thing.

Definately a dominance thing. She is now after her second litter the top bitch, having eased her Grandma out. She doesn't lord it, and her dominance is quite subtle, as any displays of bossiness she knows would get short shrift from the real alpha bitch, me!!! :D

Yeah I thought it was dominance but like yu say there's only one Alpha bitch per household and that the human kind.Good job we don't stand and cock our legs though ;D

i have a bitch Stafford that cocks her leg when she is in season

i also had a dog puppy that would cock his leg before he left for his new home and that was at 8 weeks. he did not do it all the time but it was funny to watch
the do i have now does not cock his leg at all ;)
