Hi all,
I know that most dogs either roll around in it, or eat Fox poo. Mine has found that why should he waste it by rolling in it, when it obviously makes a tatsy treat! (i wonder whats in it that attracts them so much)?
My question is it worries me what might be in it, parasites, disease etc or is it harmless?
We live in a rural area where there is plenty available!
Any advice? Thanks.

Isn't Fox Poo the name of the convenient new complete Barf diet for dogs???? :D :D :D
Sorry, couldn't resist that - I'm sure someone sane will be along soon to help

We have the same problem! To be honest, anything could be in it - viruses, parasites etc, and because the two species are so similar, 'nasties' can and do get passed between them. Make certain you keep his worming up to date.

My biggest concern would be mange....easily caught from the area where the fox has been defacating rather than from the poo itself. Then there are the worms...

I can sympathise with this - my beagle eats any variety of poo that's lying around and it's disgusting! Horse poo, duck poo & fox poo being his top favourites.
I do my best to chase him off when he's happily tucking in or having a good roll in it but you can't catch him everytime. As others have said - keep a strict worming & Frontline timetable. I also tend to bath the dog the minute he gets home if he's been rollling in something undesirable in an effort to rid him of anything unpleasant he may have picked up. All the foxes in my area are rank, stinky, balding, filthy creatures that feed from the bins - they must be rolling in disease & & filth. Bizarre really when we live in such a rural area.

Hi Lady,
Well, I guess the foxes here in Surrey are used to a better quality of rubbish. All those I've seen are plump and healthy looking - can't tell about the smell, as I have never got close enough to sniff.
In fact, I was really annoyed in that for the first time last year a rabbit took up residence in my garden. Chomped through two new shrubs during the Winter. Decided our foxes were lazy and good for nothing rubbish pickers. But, I have not seen the rabbit all Spring - and there are no signs of rabbit damage. So perhaps one actually decided to switch to BARF and go back to a natural diet. :-)

stacey you dont have to get close to a fox to smell it!!! I can smell them in all our field gateways, just where they have passed through....& they stink! :(
